Role Overview
Cloud Infrastructure Automation (CIA) Team empowers Coupang to move at the speed of innovation by eliminating infrastructure friction. We transform complex cloud and infrastructure challenges into simple, automated solutions that let our Coupang teams focus on what they do best – WOW the customer. 

This role focuses on building and optimizing AWS Controllers for Kubernetes (ACK) to simplify AWS service management, designing service mesh solutions for secure and observable traffic, and engineering scalable Kubernetes platforms. You will create developer-friendly interfaces, GitOps workflows, and automation tools that enable self-service infrastructure provisioning while ensuring performance, reliability, and cost efficiency across multi-cluster environments.

 

What You Will Do 

  • Intelligent AWS Resource Management: Build ACK-based controllers that automatically provision, configure, and manage AWS resources based on application requirements and usage patterns.
  • Multi-Cluster Service Mesh: Design and implement a service mesh architecture that spans multiple EKS clusters and regions with automated traffic management and security policies.
  • Developer Self-Service Platform: Create a Kubernetes-native platform where developers can provision databases, load balancers, and other AWS services through simple YAML manifests.
  • Infrastructure Drift Detection & Remediation: Develop systems that automatically detect and remediate infrastructure drift, ensuring declared state matches actual state across all environments

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of total experience  
  • 4+ years of AWS experience with services like EKS, VPC, IAM, RDS, and load balancers
  • Service Mesh experience with Istio, Envoy, or similar technologies
  • Container orchestration expertise with Docker, containerd, and Kubernetes networking
  • GitOps experience with ArgoCD, Flux, or similar tools
  • 7+ years of Kubernetes experience including custom controller and operator development
  • AWS Controllers for Kubernetes (ACK) experience or similar controller frameworks
  • Kubernetes internals knowledge including API server, etcd, scheduler, and kubelet
  • Service mesh architecture experience with multi-cluster and multi-region deployments
  • Cloud-native security expertise with SPIFFE/SPIRE, OPA, or Falco
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with CNCF ecosystem experience with Prometheus, Grafana and other cloud-native tools
  • Exposure to Terraform/Crossplane experience for infrastructure as code
  • Helm/Kustomize expertise for Kubernetes application packaging
  • Observability experience with distributed tracing and metrics collection
  • Multi-cloud experience with GCP, Azure, or hybrid architectures
  • Open source contribution to Kubernetes, Istio, or related projects

Our Hybrid work model: Coupang hybrid work model is designed to enable a culture of collaboration that acts a catalyst to enrich the experience of employees. Employees are required to work at least 3 days in the office per week, with the flexibility to work from home 2 days a week, depending on the role requirement.
