Staff Backend Engineer ( Cassandra)

 Role Overview 

The Coupang Corner Stone team in the application infrastructure organization, takes charge of company-wide transaction data storage and common data service layer to materialize e-commerce data for low latency reading. The Storage and Tools team owns the storage services like Cassandra, Elastic Search, MySQL, Vitess and Clickhouse, providing storage services through in-house hosted open-source technology. 

 We are looking for software development engineers with Cassandra experience. As a Staff Engineer, you are the domain expert in Cassandra to handle the Cassandra usage problem, Cassandra performance optimization, Cassandra cluster setup, and Cassandra client SDK development. Besides that, you are the Go-To person when the domain team needs to make the storage solution chosen, and provide Cassandra based storage solutions to meet business requirements.  

 What You Will Do 

• Hand on to develop the features to enhance the system availability, disaster recovery and performance enhancement
• Dive deep into the system and fix complex technical problems.
• Participate in the daily system operation to address system issues and answer customers’ questions.
• Identify the system's reliability and performance issues and propose solutions with the best industry practice.
• Work with the team manager to define the tech and project road map.
• Collaborate with other Coupang tech teams to make the service extensible to support business growth
• Drive communication up to Principal Engineer and Senior director level.
• Advocate engineer excellence and operation excellence with the team
• Hire and develop team members with knowledge sharing and high-quality interviews. 

Minimum Qualifications 

• 4 years of relevant industry experience with distributed systems, system programming and backend development with Cassandra expertise.
• 4 years of solid work with fundamental algorithms, system design, and large distributed systems. 
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field
• Expert in Cassandra configuration, usage and operation
• Work as Platform or infrastructure engineer on database or storage services
• Familiar with AWS technology  
• Solid system and code debugging skills
• Deep understanding in service availability, scalability, and latency.
• Excellent communication skills in English including verbal and written
• Have experience on TiDB management is a plus
• At least 6+ years working experience on software design & development experience on  distributed system and experience developing large scale enterprise 

Pay & Benefits 

Our compensation reflects the cost of living across several US geographic markets. At Coupang, your base pay is one part of your total compensation.  The base pay for this position ranges from $138,000/year in our lowest geographic market to $297,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
