Staff Back-end Engineer (Marketplace Listing)

Description
We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Engineer for the Marketplace Listing Domain team in Shanghai. This role focuses on the core gateway of Coupang’s marketplace—managing billions of listings, attribute extraction, automated pricing, and global seller tools. You will be responsible for the technical design and execution of complex, high-concurrency systems that handle massive data flows to support global sellers.
 
Core Job Duties
•    System Design & Optimization: Design and implement scalable architectures for core services, including search engine enhancements and near-real-time pipelines.
•    Technical Execution: Act as the key technical person for complex projects.
•    Performance Engineering: Identify and resolve system bottlenecks in Spark jobs, Cassandra clusters, and Elasticsearch indices to reduce latency and improve resource efficiency.
•    Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product Managers and other domain teams to align on technical requirements, correct inaccurate logic, and ensure smooth downstream integration.
•    Global Platform Development: Contribute to the development of globalized platforms  that support multi-language SDKs and static resource management.
 
Job Requirements
Technical Qualifications
•    Back-end: Expert-level proficiency in Java. Experience with Scala or Kotlin is highly preferred.
•    Big Data & Storage: Hands-on experience with Spark, Airflow, and Spring Batch. Strong knowledge of Elasticsearch (cluster optimization), Cassandra, or HBase.
•    Full-Stack Capability (Optional): Proficiency in Vue or React for building and maintaining seller-facing interfaces like Wing.
•    Large-Scale Systems: Proven ability to handle high-volume data (e.g., indices with 10+ billion documents) and optimize peak-time CPU/traffic usage.
Soft Skills & Leadership Principles
•    Dive Deep: Ability to analyze legacy code across multiple repositories and perform deep data analysis to identify fraud or performance issues.
•    Move with Urgency: Capable of delivering MVP versions of complex features within tight timelines (e.g., 1–2 weeks) without compromising quality.
•    Think Systematically: Ability to design automated, scalable solutions and prepare common codebases for future phase expansions.
•    Deliver Results with Grits: Proven track record of taking full ownership of projects from design to successful production launch.
 
Preferred Experiences
•    Experience in e-commerce listing, catalog management, or seller growth domains.
