Staff Android Engineer (Future Opportunities)

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for setting technical direction and shaping our engineering culture;
  • Responsible for establishing best practices and defining effective partnerships;
  • Work with cross-functional partners in Engineering, Product Management, Design and Research across Twitter to plan, implement, and validate solutions to user problems while pushing the Twitter for Android experience towards the future;
  • Work at all layers of the Android stack;
  • Proactively identify improvements to our product’s UX/UI and our codebase to enable us to stay ahead of the curve of the constantly evolving Android development ecosystem; 
  • Enable effective collaboration, high velocity execution and technical excellence within the team;
  • Lead by example in terms of best engineering practices including writing engineering architecture/design documents, checking in, reviewing maintainable and extensible code with high-quality tests and documentation;
  • Provide technical mentorship and coaching to our technical leads.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of prior experience developing mobile applications on Android with Java and/or Kotlin;
  • Knowledge of core CS concepts such as data structures and algorithms, profiling, and optimization;
  • Familiar with Android SDK frameworks, in areas such as networking, data persistence, logging and performance tooling;
  • Familiar with standard software engineering methodology such as unit testing, code reviews, design documentation;
  • Strong understanding of Android design guidelines;
  • Considered a Subject Matter Expert when it comes to Android development;
  • Previous experience building products from scratch, and proven ability of turning product requirements into concrete engineering plans;
  • Possess general networking knowledge with detailed experience in Android networking stacks;
  • Possess technical depth that allows you to negotiate expectations around technical limitations, bring designs to life, and rapidly fix bugs and solve problems;
  • Experience with building high quality, scalable and reusable code consumed by other engineers;
  • Advocate of user-centric product development and understands the balance required when shipping impact software at scale, while considering trade-offs and collaboration;
  • Track record as a leader in the areas of their domain, driving large-scale operational changes across an organization;
  • Track record of staff-level+ contributions on multiple projects;
  • Track record of coordinating implementation of high impact projects across many teams, delivering projects with reliable deadlines and milestones over multiple quarters;
  • Experience creating scalable impact by one or more of the following: Up-leveling peers, supporting peers in their technical proposals, or supporting their technical designs;
  • Prior leadership experience as technical lead/architect;
  • Demonstrated ability to assist other teams with diagnosing or root-causing their incidents.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong eye towards design and usability;
  • Passionate about experimentation and understanding user behavior and needs;
  • Proactive external code contributor on public forms.
