YOUR ROLE

The Staff Accountant plays a crucial role in the company’s accounting processes and is responsible for assisting with general accounting functions, including preparing journal entries, reconciling general ledger accounts, performing month-end close processes, maintaining compliance with applicable sales tax regulations & filing requirements, managing business license registrations & renewals, and inventory payment management. This position requires a good understanding of U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (U.S. GAAP), strong analytical skills, and the ability to communicate accounting information effectively to stakeholders at all levels. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, highly analytical, and eager to work in a fast-paced environment at a growing company.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in recurring month-end and year-end accounting close processes for various financial areas, including preparing journal entries and reconciling general ledger account balances to ensure accuracy.
  • Reconciling & processing all inventory invoices and wire payments.
  • Manage inventory reconciliations and inventory cost accounting by season to ensure proper tracking & forecasting as invoices are received and inventory is delivered.
  • Reconcile sales taxes owed on a monthly basis and support the preparation of sales tax filings and other regulatory sales tax compliance requirements.
  • Manage proper lease accounting under ASC 842 and prepare the required monthly adjusting journal entries.
  • Track and reconcile the company’s fixed assets and manage the depreciation schedule.
  • Track and account for the company’s intangible assets such as trademark costs and periodically review eligible costs for capitalization.
  • Reconcile inventory units on hand on a monthly basis and communicate any discrepancies to the operations team for follow-up.
  • Investigate customer deposit variances between the e-commerce platform and accounting system on a monthly basis and post an adjusting journal entry to reconcile any differences.
  • Review inventory adjustments and support retail teams during periodic physical inventory cycle counts.
  • Support weekly and monthly debt compliance requirements and provide any requested information to the company’s lenders.
  • Maintain compliance with the company’s business license registration & renewal requirements as well as personal property tax filings.
  • Analyze financial & accounting data and provide insights to improve business operations.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including operations, logistics, tech and marketing, to support accurate accounting & financial reporting.
  • Assist with audits, both internal and external, by providing requested financial documentation and reports.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and automation within the company’s ERP and accounting systems.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in e-commerce, retail, manufacturing, or a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, Xero, or similar ERP systems).
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis, macros, power query).
  • Experience with e-commerce platforms (Shopify, Amazon, Avalara, etc.) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with sales tax compliance, inventory accounting, and cost accounting is preferred.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and workload, strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Comfortable with using AI and identifying opportunities to improve existing processes using these tools.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

We provide competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives and benefits. The base salary range for this role is $60,000-$75,000. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of the range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors including experience, skills, and qualifications.
