Sr. Engineer - System Integration
TLDR
Ensure reliable installation of VEIR’s superconducting cable systems across diverse environments while acting as a key subject matter expert in installation practices.
WHY VEIR?
Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Woburn, Massachusetts, VEIR is a U.S.-based designer and manufacturer of category-defining superconducting power delivery systems built for the extreme energy demands of the AI era. By commercializing next-generation superconducting technology into deployable, real-world systems, VEIR delivers ~10× higher power density than conventional options, enabling “speed-to-power” where incremental optimization falls short. VEIR’s initial focus is AI data centers behind the meter, with solutions engineered for repeatable deployment through reference designs and integrated controls, designed to incorporate learnings as deployments scale.
The Role
VEIR is seeking a qualified Senior Engineer to join our System Integration & Heat Transfer team. This individual will play a critical role ensuring VEIR’s superconducting cable is reliably installed in the full range of possible customer sites.
What You’ll Do
- Serve as a subject matter expert in the equipment, means, methods and materials of installing our low-voltage and medium-voltage superconducting cable systems in all possible environments.
- Specify and design installation hardware and equipment, including custom equipment where necessary.
- Assist in the planning and execution of testing to ensure the cable mechanical design is consistent with required installation techniques and methods.
- Translate complex technical specifications into field installation manuals.
- Design training, and provide field support to help external partners install our system reliably.
- Ensure all installation methods comply with site safety standards and relevant
- codes / regulations.
- Interface and manage external contractors at both a high level planning stage and detailed execution stage.
Skills You Have
- 7+ years of experience in engineering, with a strong foundation in structural systems and/or large infrastructure, hardware selection and specification, field operations and support, and analytical methods for calculating forces, tolerances, and allowable loads.
- Experience in CAD and BIM.
- Skilled in MATLAB, Python, or similar languages is a plus.
- Expertise in technical writing and process documentation.
- A continuous improvement mindset to innovate and optimize system designs.
- Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration, vendor management, and team mentoring.
- Willingness to travel for short durations during product deployment phases.
To Be Successful in This Role, You’ll Need
- You bring a solid background in engineering, with deep experience in mechanical process design and field operations, along with structural and/or mechanical engineering fundamentals.
- Known for your precision and your ability to ideate, iterate, and execute complex designs.
- You are an outstanding communicator (written and verbal) across all levels of the organization and can work effectively in a fast-paced collaborative environment.
- You excel at technical writing for non-expert audiences. You can dissect a complex process, describe it clearly and thoroughly, and anticipate the questions and challenges of a reader encountering the work for the first time — preempting them in the documentation.
- You are able to lead engineering trade studies that cross system boundaries, drawing on rigorous analytical and engineering judgment and the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across team boundaries.
- You are a highly motivated, self-starter with a positive approach to problem solving
- You are driven by results - you gauge your success in measurable positive impact (not in how much you check off the to do list) and know how to ruthlessly prioritize
- You thrive on effectively managing multiple projects with competing priorities that require making decisions under pressure and working under tight deadlines
- You are highly curious and solutions-oriented, and excel at deconstructing complex problems into manageable components to develop effective solutions
- You are committed to buying into VEIR’s mission and goals, and adopting our core values
