The Position

The Senior Director of Strategic Alliance Management will be responsible for evaluating, structuring, and negotiating collaborations with academic institutions, as well as managing completed and ongoing partnerships with both academic and commercial collaborators. This position will report to the EVP, General Counsel and Head of Market Access. 

This position is located in our San Diego office (hybrid) and we are also open to remote. 

The Senior Director of Strategic Alliances will partner closely with the following Veracyte functions:

  • Clinical & Medical: Leading negotiation of complex research collaborations and academic licenses; project management of standard research collaborations
  • Legal: Negotiating and redlining of contracts in partnership with Legal
  • Business Development: Transitioning executed commercial partnerships and alliances from BD team into alliance management function

Other key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead negotiation, structuring, and closing of research collaborations with key academic institutions, inclusive of critical cross functional input, with the ability to operate in a fairly independent manner
  • Plan and oversee alliance management activities post-transaction across academic and commercial relationships, collaborating cross-functionally to ensure seamless transition and value realization inclusive of royalty payment and project management (inbound and outbound)
  • Manage business relationships and counsel internal and external business partners on transaction and strategic issues pertaining to licensing/strategic alliances
  • Advocate for the continuous improvement of collaboration and alliance management processes, creative structures, and contracting 
  • In collaboration with finance, responsible for building centralized royalty tracking system and dashboard with an eye toward ensuring accurate forecasting and contractual interpretation and analysis in close collaboration with legal

 

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree with at least 12 years of business experience or MBA/other advanced degree, with at least 10 years relevant alliance management, partnering, licensing, or business development experience required
  • Significant expertise in project management and contract negotiation desired
  • Technical acumen in biology/genomics/NGS and experience in oncology and/or molecular diagnostics required
  • Strong track record of results as it relates to management of third-party relationships in life sciences
  • Strong business, negotiation, analytical decision-making, and executive functioning skills required
  • Ability to effectively communicate, build relationships, and influence a broad variety of business leaders, both internally and externally [YD2.1]
  • Ability to analyze complex issues and take business/client-focused approach to difficult decisions—to advance practical solutions
  • Passion for supporting patient care and ability to engage team members to achieve objectives
  • Strong prioritization and time-management skills needed for a fast-paced environment

#LI-Hybrid, or #LI-Remote

For candidates based in our San Diego office, the salary range is $234,700 - $282,700.

For candidates working remote (US), the salary range is $226,000 - 270,300.

 

The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to years of experience, skillset, geographic location, industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
