As a Senior Director on the Retirement Services team, you’ll report to the Vice President of Retirement Services. You will serve in a player‑coach role, leading the Retirement Plan Advisor team. In your role you will manage a book of business and territory and, collectively with your team, be responsible for managing existing plan relationships, generating new business, increase spheres of influence and manage day-to-day lead flow and asset generating activities in the small retirement plan market.
 
We are looking for someone who is highly experienced in the small plan retirement market, is a strong leader and has excellent organizational, presentation, communication and follow-through skills. If you are an individual with a strong background working with qualified plans such as 401k/Profit Sharing, New Comparability, Cross-tested and Cash Balance Pension Plans who can work in a team environment and understands the small business retirement plans marketplace, this may be the opportunity for you! 
  
Responsibilities: 
  
  • Practice Management:
    • Influence Manage relationships to serve existing and generate new retirement plan clients with a focus on plan sizes of $1M-$100M in plan assets  
    • Manage day-to-day lead flow and plan management activities 
    • Build and present plan options to sponsors  
    • Highlight the value of the Edelman Financial Engines Retirement Services and increase awareness and brand identity in the $1M-$100M plan market  
    • Prepare and present explanatory webinars for current and prospective clients  
    • Build and maintain Retirement Plan referral relationships with EFE Planners  
    • Maintain compliance with all corporate and regulatory standards  
  • Strategy and Growth:
    • Work with the VP of Retirement Services to develop, prioritize and oversee execution of strategic growth initiatives while ensuring alignment, preparedness and successful change management through effective communication with stakeholders.
    • Responsible for Retirement Services sales process, execution and monitoring to ensure business development goals are met or exceeded.
    • Drive improvements in plan sales and management by developing scalable strategies and playbooks for long-term growth.
    • Work closely with Investment Management to improve investment offerings and explore using new products like CITs to create efficiencies and improvements to annual plan reviews.
    • Create and implement enhanced plan participant services and experiences by collaborating with our Workplace, Employee Planning and Wealth Planning teams.

  • People Leadership & Team Management:
    • Provide direct management and day‑to‑day leadership for assigned Retirement Plan Advisors and/or support staff. 
    • Balance personal production with oversight of team workflows, deadlines, and quality standards. 
    • Conduct regular one‑on‑one meetings, provide coaching and feedback, and participate in performance evaluations and development planning. 
    • Support hiring, onboarding, and training of new team members, ensuring a smooth transition and long‑term success. 
    • Serve as an escalation point for complex technical, client, or plan issues. 
    • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high‑performing team culture aligned with Edelman Financial Engines’ values. 
    • Has direct supervisory responsibility for assigned retirement plan advisor staff.
    • Works closely with retirement plan analysts, recordkeeping/TPA team and internal and external partners.
    Requirements: 
       
    • Must be knowledgeable in investment management and work with qualified plans such as 401k, Cash Balance Pension Plans, Profit-sharing plans, etc.  
    • Must be knowledgeable in applicable laws and standard methodologies in retirement plans  
    • Excellent organizational, presentation, communication and follow-through skills  
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, as vital to work effectively with staff at all levels  
    • Ability to be an active team participant  
    • Minimum 15 years of experience in the retirement plans industry and prior leadership in similar role required  
    • Good understanding of Retirement Plans, Recordkeepers, payroll providers and Third-Party Administrators  
    • Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent industry experience  
    • Series 65 required 
    • CRPC/CRPS preferred 
      
    Edelman Financial Engines takes a market-based approach to pay. The expected base salary range for this role nationally is $156,900 - 209,100. However, final base pay will be carefully determined based on several factors, including responsibilities, job-related skills, relevant experience, geographic location, and market conditions. Additionally, this role may be eligible for other forms of compensation and benefits, such as a discretionary bonus, health, dental and other wellness plans, and 401(k) contributions.
