The Position:

We are seeking a highly collaborative Senior Director of Business AI to lead our company-wide AI strategy and accelerate the adoption of AI across key business functions. This leader will define KPIs for AI-powered workflows, and manage both internal and outsourced teams to design, build, and operate production-grade AI solutions that deliver measurable business outcomes.

This role is both strategic and hands-on: you will shape the Business AI roadmap, guide responsible AI practices, and ensure that teams have the tools, training, and support they need to confidently integrate AI into their daily work. You will partner deeply with departments such as Legal, HR, Customer Service, Finance, and Operations to understand their workflows, identify high-impact opportunities, and translate business needs into scalable AI-driven solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise AI Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and own the company’s Business AI strategy, aligning it with organizational goals and departmental priorities.
  • Build a multi-year roadmap that balances innovation, operational efficiency, and responsible AI governance.
  • Serve as the primary evangelist for AI adoption across the organization.

Departmental Partnership & Process Understanding

  • Partner closely with leaders in Legal, HR, Customer Service, Finance, and other functions to deeply understand their business processes, pain points, and opportunities.
  • Conduct structured process mapping and needs assessments to identify where AI can meaningfully accelerate workflows, reduce manual effort, or improve accuracy.
  • Translate departmental needs into clear requirements, use cases, and implementation plans.

AI Solution Development & Deployment

  • Lead cross-functional teams to design, prototype, and deploy AI solutions that integrate seamlessly into existing processes.
  • Evaluate and select AI tools, platforms, and vendors; ensure interoperability with enterprise systems.
  • Manage outsourced development, including writing SOWs, defining SLAs, coordinating multi-timezone vendors, and ensuring on-time/on-quality delivery.
  • Deploy AI agents across all organizational levels to enhance efficiency and decision-making.

Responsible AI, Advanced Governance & Risk Management

  • Work across teams to maintain advanced governance standards for privacy, security, compliance, and ethical use of AI and alignment with emerging regulations (e.g., NIST, EU AI Act).
  • Partner with Legal and Compliance to ensure all AI initiatives meet regulatory and organizational requirements.
  • Establish ongoing monitoring, auditing, and risk management protocols for all AI solutions.

Talent Strategy & AI Literacy

  • Drive AI hiring, upskilling, and mentoring initiatives across departments, ensuring a diverse and highly skilled team.
  • Partner with HR to launch formal training, mentorship, and executive education programs to boost AI literacy and adoption at all levels of the organization.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation in AI.

External Partnerships & Ecosystem Engagement

  • Build and manage relationships with external partners, including AI vendors, technology providers, academic institutions, and startups, to accelerate innovation and access new capabilities.
  • Represent the organization in relevant industry forums, consortia, and conferences.

Change Management & Cultural Transformation

  • Lead broad-based cultural change initiatives to embed AI as a strategic mindset across all functions.
  • Develop and execute communication, training, and enablement programs to drive adoption and confidence in AI-powered solutions.
  • Build a culture of experimentation, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration.

Measurement, Strategic ROI & Value Reporting

  • Define KPIs and success metrics for AI initiatives (e.g., time saved, adoption, error reduction, financial impact, customer satisfaction).
  • Regularly update executive leadership on progress, impact, and value generated relative to investment.

Who You Are:

Qualifications

Required

  • 10+ years of experience in business systems, digital transformation and the use of AI within related fields.
  • Proven track record leading business-level AI or automation initiatives in a complex organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and map business processes across multiple functions.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Copilot ecosystem and AWS AI ecosystem.
  • Experience managing outsourced development and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong data & process skills (ERP, CRM, HRIS, Reporting, process mapping, KPIs, controls, etc.).
  • Deep understanding of responsible AI, data privacy, and compliance considerations.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred

  • Experience with ERP implementation and/or process definitions.
  • Experience with business AI platforms, LLMs, workflow automation, and knowledge management systems.
  • Familiarity with Responsible AI practices, data security, and compliance in enterprise settings.

#LI-Hybrid, or #LI-Remote

For candidates based in our San Diego office, the salary range is $230,860 - $261,200.

For candidates working remote (US), the salary is $222,850 - $251,275. 

 

The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to years of experience, skillset, geographic location, industry, education, etc. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
