Our Culture
At SimplePractice, our culture is the foundation of everything we do—it shapes how we work, how we serve our customers, and how we pursue our mission. Guided by five core values, we strive to embody them every day:
- We Think Big
- We Take Simplicity Seriously

- We Are Built On Trust
Culture is a shared responsibility at SimplePractice, driving us to be better teammates and deliver more for our customers. Collaboration and connection are also key to our success. As part of our team, you'll work alongside talented colleagues across multiple countries and have opportunities to collaborate virtually and in-person, in both the U.S. and Mexico.
The Role
SimplePractice is hiring its first Design Technologist, based out of our Mexico City office. This role is for someone who has spent their career living between design and engineering, someone who strengthens the connective tissue between how things look and how they get built. You will contribute to design system architecture, cross-functional technical collaboration, and the evolution of AI-assisted design practices across the organization.
Your work will focus on the semantic and component token layer of our design system alongside our engineering team. In practice, that might mean spending an afternoon defining spacing and typography tokens with a design systems engineer, a few days later prototyping a component pattern in Figma Make, and the following week documenting governance standards that the rest of the design org will rely on. The common thread across all of it is the seam between design intent and engineering execution.
You will join a design organization that is actively building toward an AI-forward, prototype-first culture, including agent-assisted design system maintenance and MCP-connected prototyping in tools like Claude Code. Your technical fluency will make you one of the most valuable connective resources we have, reducing friction between design intent and engineering execution, and creating durable infrastructure the whole team can build on.
We are a remote-friendly organization with a growing CDMX presence. You will work alongside designers already based in Mexico City, partner closely with our engineering teams, and report directly to the Director of Product Design for Practice Management.
Responsibilities
-
Complete and maintain the semantic and component token layer of the SimplePractice design system, covering spacing, typography, elevation, motion, and border types, in partnership with our Design System engineering team
-
Design and document component token logic at the component level, including state-aware and context-aware patterns aligned with engineering implementation
-
Collaborate with engineering partners on token naming, component structure, and implementation QA
-
Partner on scoping and standing up an MCP server for the design system, enabling AI-assisted prototyping for the broader design org
-
Review agent-authored component candidates for design intent and craft, alongside engineering review for code quality and accessibility
-
Operate inside the engineering Code Access and Contribution Policy, partnering with Design System engineering on both human-authored and agent-authored contributions
-
Build Figma and Figma Make workflows optimized for design system work, creating templates and documentation the broader team can adopt
-
Participate in design system governance, contributing to documentation, versioning standards, and rollout support
-
Represent the design perspective in cross-functional technical discussions, helping product and engineering teams understand design intent with precision
-
Experiment with AI-assisted design tools and help integrate them into team workflows as the tooling matures
Desired Skills and Experience
We are looking for 6+ years of experience in a hybrid design role, whether that is design systems, product design with a technical edge, or design engineering. Writing production code is not expected. Comfort in the space between design and engineering is.
-
Enough front-end fluency (HTML/CSS, React, or equivalent) to participate in implementation discussions, review token naming against what engineering is building, and collaborate meaningfully on QA
-
Strong Figma proficiency, including component architecture, auto layout, variables, and prototyping. Figma Make experience is a significant plus
-
Familiarity with design system tooling infrastructure, including token platforms (Style Dictionary or equivalent), ZeroHeight, and Figma's plugin and API ecosystem
-
Experience creating or contributing to design tokens in large or multi-brand organizations, including semantic and component token layers
-
Comfort switching between systems-level thinking and feature-level execution across concurrent workstreams
-
Familiarity with AI-assisted design and development tools, including large language models, code-generation workflows, AI-powered prototyping platforms, and MCP-connected design systems. A willingness to experiment and integrate these tools into daily practice is essential
-
Strong written and verbal communication in English. Spanish fluency preferred
-
A portfolio that shows both polished interaction craft and systems thinking
Required Skills
-
Figma (advanced), including variables and component systems
-
Figma Make or equivalent advanced prototyping tooling
-
Design token architecture, with semantic and component token experience
-
Design system documentation, with the ability to produce references that serve designers and engineering partners equally
-
Ability to partner with engineers on implementation and QA
-
Proficiency with AI-assisted design tools, including large language models, code generation, or AI prototyping platforms
-
Written English proficiency sufficient for async collaboration with US-based teams
