Sr. Advanced CAD Specialist A leading defense technology organization supporting national security missions is seeking a Sr. Advanced CAD Specialist to join its Undersea Systems division. The position is part of a cross-functional engineering team responsible for advancing mission-critical hardware through hands-on technical design and collaboration. Position Overview The Sr. Advanced CAD Specialist will support the full design lifecycle of printed wiring boards and circuit card assemblies. This role requires deep knowledge of industry standards, advanced layout practices, and proficiency with multiple CAD and analysis tools. The selected candidate will work closely with program management, electrical and mechanical engineering teams, and component engineering to deliver high-quality technical outputs and support multiple concurrent design efforts. Key Responsibilities Complete printed wiring board designs in coordination with program management and engineering teams. Apply advanced knowledge of industry standards, including IPC, J-STD, MIL-SPEC, ASME, ESD, UL, and RoHS. Incorporate understanding of board fabrication and assembly processes, materials, tolerances, and electronic component characteristics. Execute layout circuit design for mixed-signal, analog, digital, high-speed, RF, linear and switching power supplies, high-voltage, high-current, and multiple communication interfaces (Ethernet, PCI, VPX, DDR, RS485, SATA, USB, I2C, and others). Use tools such as Cadence Capture CIS and Allegro, Altium, Xpedition, CAM350, Valor, Gerber, ODB++, Polar Si9000, Zplanner, AutoCAD, eDrawings, SolidWorks, Windchill, and Microsoft Office. Perform schematic capture, layout design, constraint setup, netlist debug, symbol and footprint creation, padstack and stack-up design, impedance modeling, design rule checks, and design documentation export. Troubleshoot design conflicts, provide technical solutions, and follow internal design processes and industry best practices. Support expedited design requests, manage multiple concurrent assignments, provide daily design updates, and maintain repository posting requirements. Conduct and participate in design reviews, screen-share sessions, and formal layout reviews while completing design checklists and adhering to schedule needs. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proficiency in Cadence Capture CIS and Allegro. Strong understanding of design documentation standards (IPC, J-STD, ASME). Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a solutions-focused approach. Ability to work within defined cost, schedule, and technology constraints. Strong teamwork, collaboration, and communication skills. Ability to provide schedule input, delegate tasks, and integrate feedback. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time and deliver assignments on schedule. Demonstrated ability to contribute effectively within a technical team environment.
