Summary:
Our client is seeking an experienced SQL Server DBA to lead and execute a migration from SAS to Microsoft SQL Server. This role is hands-on and delivery-focused, combining SQL Server administration, data migration, and technical leadership. The engagement is fully remote with flexible hours. Candidates may work part-time or up to 40 hours per week and do not need to leave their current role. This is well-suited for an experienced professional looking for a high-impact side engagement or flexible contract role.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Lead the technical conversion of SAS datasets, programs, and logic to SQL Server
- Analyze existing SAS workflows and translate them into efficient SQL Server–based solutions
- Design, implement, and optimize SQL Server schemas, stored procedures, views, and queries

Own SQL Server administration, including: Performance tuning and indexing, Security and access controls, and backup, recovery, and reliability practices
- Validate data accuracy and performance against existing SAS outputs
- Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to ensure a successful migration
- Document architecture, migration patterns, and operational procedures
Required Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred
- 5+ years of SQL Server DBA experience (mid to senior level)

Strong expertise in: SQL Server administration, T-SQL development and optimization, Performance monitoring and troubleshooting
- Hands-on experience migrating from SAS to SQL Server (or SAS to another RDBMS)
- Ability to interpret and convert SAS logic into SQL-based implementations. Comfortable working independently in a remote, flexible engagement
- Clear communication skills and the ability to explain technical decisions
Preferred
- Experience with SSIS or other ETL tools
- Exposure to cloud-based SQL Server environments (Azure SQL, AWS RDS, etc.)
- Background supporting analytics, reporting, or data warehouse workloads
