Role Overview
The Spotter plays a vital safety-focused role on Centum projects, supporting site teams during lifting operations, plant movements, confined access works, and high-risk activities. The Spotter acts as the eyes and ears of the operation, ensuring clear communication, hazard awareness, and safe coordination between operatives, plant, and surrounding trades.
This role is essential in live, congested, or high-risk environments such as data centres and pharmaceutical facilities, where attention to detail and strict adherence to safety procedures are critical.
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Risk Management
- Act as a designated Spotter during lifting operations, MEWP use, plant movement, and restricted access works.
- Maintain constant awareness of surroundings, identifying hazards and unsafe conditions.
- Enforce exclusion zones and safe distances at all times.
- Stop work immediately if unsafe conditions arise.
Communication & Coordination
- Maintain clear communication with operatives, supervisors, and plant operators using agreed signals and protocols.
- Guide plant and equipment safely through live or congested areas.
- Coordinate movements to avoid clashes with other trades and ongoing works.
Site Support
- Support supervisors with safe systems of work, permits, and task briefings.
- Assist with traffic management, access control, and safe routing where required.
- Ensure work areas are kept clear, tidy, and compliant with site rules.
Compliance & Standards
- Follow all Centum safety procedures, method statements, and risk assessments.
- Ensure activities comply with project safety plans and local site rules.
- Promote a strong safety culture and lead by example on site.
Skills & Experience Required
Experience
- Previous experience working on construction, data centre, pharmaceutical, or industrial sites.
- Experience acting as a Spotter, Banksman, or similar safety support role is desirable.
- Familiarity with working around MEWPs, cranes, lifting equipment, and live environments.

- Strong awareness and attention to detail.
- Confident communicator with the ability to challenge unsafe behaviour.
- Reliable, punctual, and safety-focused.
- Calm and alert in fast-paced or high-pressure site conditions.
Qualifications
- Valid Safe Pass / CSCS or equivalent.
- Banksman / Slinger / Signaller or Spotter training desirable.
- IPAF or manual handling certification an advantage.
- Willingness to work across multiple European sites.
