Purpose of Position
EdReports is seeking a specialist to support communications, partner outreach, and field engagement. The specialist’s primary focus will be on EdReports’ work to strengthen its reviews of early learning supports for multilingual learners (MLLs) in instructional materials. They will also contribute to the organization’s broader communications objectives aligned to EdReports’ strategic plan.
The specialist will:
- Work closely with subject matter experts to deeply understand the instructional needs of multilingual learners.
- Translate complex, technical information into clear, accessible materials for practitioners, partners, and other non-technical audiences.
- Engage with key stakeholders (e.g., school system leaders, EdReports’ educator reviewers, and partner organizations focused on technical assistance) to gather insights and support understanding of EdReports’ evolving MLL-related reviews and other developing products.
Key Responsibilities & Outcomes
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with internal subject matter experts to understand multilingual learner needs and research findings related to early literacy, early mathematics (K-5), and pre-kindergarten (pre-K) instructional materials, and translate this learning into clear, audience-appropriate communications.
- Develop and draft high-quality written materials (e.g., briefs, blogs, FAQs, presentations, talking points, web content) that translate research, pilot findings, and EdReports’ review methodologies for practitioners, partners, and the broader field.
- Support the field-facing rollout and communications of strengthened MLL review components, including foundational skills pilots, early math reviews, and pre-K materials, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment with EdReports’ voice and values.
- Partner with cross-functional colleagues to understand the needs and experiences of key stakeholders (e.g., school system leaders, educator reviewers, partner organizations) and synthesize insights to inform communications and related materials.
- Support planning and facilitation of partner engagement activities (e.g., listening sessions, briefings, webinars, or convenings) in collaboration with cross-functional colleagues.
- Contribute to organizational communications efforts aligned to EdReports’ strategic plan, including thought leadership, report usability, and field-facing messaging that strengthens EdReports’ influence and trust.
- Partner with the Academic Office to support clear, consistent communications related to publisher engagement, as needed.
- Manage assigned communications workstreams and deliverables, tracking progress, deadlines, and dependencies.
- Ensure all work reflects EdReports’ commitment to quality, transparency, equity, and accessibility.
- Other relevant duties as assigned to support the organization's strategic goals, with the expectation that all EdReports employees remain flexible and adaptable to evolving responsibilities.
Outcomes:
First 30 Days
- Build a strong understanding of EdReports’ mission, core values, early learning and multilingual learner work, and the goals of the grant-funded initiative.
- Establish working relationships with subject matter experts, communications colleagues, and key cross-functional partners.
- Review existing materials, communications, and partner engagement efforts related to MLL to understand current strengths and gaps.
First 60 Days
- Independently draft and refine at least one field-facing communication (e.g., brief, blog, or presentation) translating MLL-related research or review work.
- Support at least one partner or field engagement activity (e.g., user research, listening session, briefing, webinar preparation).
- Demonstrate effective project management of assigned communications workstreams, meeting deadlines with high-quality outputs.
First 90 Days
- Regularly contribute to grant-funded communications and outreach efforts with minimal oversight.
- Synthesize partner and field input into clear insights that inform MLL or early learning communications and reviews.
- Contribute to broader organizational communications initiatives aligned to EdReports’ strategic plan.
First 6 Months
- Serve as a trusted collaborator to subject matter experts by consistently translating complex work into clear, accessible communications.
- Demonstrate ownership of multiple communications and outreach deliverables tied to early learning and multilingual learner priorities.
- Contribute meaningfully to strengthening EdReports’ field-facing narratives around early learning, multilingual learners, and instructional materials quality.
Travel
National travel will occur related to organizational needs and for professional learning, as needed. The amount of travel will be monitored to ensure it is appropriate for both the organization and the Specialist, Communications & Outreach.
Qualifications
Required:
- Passion for EdReports’ mission and vision, our core values, and our commitment to Diversity, Belonging, Inclusion, and Equity;
- 4-7 years of relevant professional experience in strategic communications, partnerships, or a related field.
- Familiarity with PK-12 education systems, instructional materials, curriculum adoption, or related policy contexts.
- Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt tone and format for varied stakeholders and to explain complex ideas clearly and accessibly.
- Experience aligning communications to strategic priorities, brand voice, or organizational messaging frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to apply an equity lens to communications, partnerships, or related work.
- Experience collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Comfort adapting to evolving priorities in the context of iterative, cross-functional pilot work.
- Strong project management skills and ability to independently manage scoped workstreams and deadlines.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Residency in and authorization to work in the United States.
Preferred:
- Experience related to multilingual learners, early literacy, early mathematics, or early childhood education.
- Experience engaging with school systems, educational leaders, or education-focused partner organizations to support outreach, listening, and field-facing communications.
- Experience supporting grant-funded initiatives or pilot projects.
Salary
The salary for this position is $80,367 - $108,731 annually. At EdReports, we determine final salaries based on the role's requirements and the candidate's experience and skills, while maintaining equity within our compensation bands. To support fairness and provide opportunities for growth, we typically offer salaries at or below the midpoint of the range. All salary offers are non-negotiable to ensure consistency and equity across the organization.

Work Authorization Requirements
All EdReports employees must reside in and be authorized to work in the United States. EdReports does not sponsor employment visas, and we are unable to consider candidates residing outside the U.S.
Physical Requirements
Work is normally performed in a remote office environment including, but not limited to standing and sitting for long periods of time; and fine-finger and hand manipulation to operate a computer and keyboard. Employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing electronic information, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading. This person will travel by car, air, or other transportation (as indicated in the Travel section) and should be able to physically withstand the demands of such travel. Employee may be required to walk for long distances at retreat venues or other relevant sites.
