Software Quality Assurance (QA) Manager Remote Overview  The Software Quality Assurance (QA) Manager is responsible for leading quality strategy, test execution, and Cypress-based automation initiatives across multiple software delivery teams supporting federal digital services. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, accessible, and scalable applications by embedding automation-first quality practices and integrating testing deeply within CI/CD pipelines.  The QA Manager serves as the quality authority across Agile teams, driving consistency in testing standards, automation frameworks, and quality metrics while partnering closely with engineering, product, and program leadership.    Key Responsibilities  Quality Strategy & Leadership  Define and execute an automation-first QA strategy with Cypress as the primary test automation framework  Establish and enforce QA standards, test processes, and best practices across Agile teams  Lead quality initiatives across multiple Scrum teams, focusing on defect prevention and release confidence  Act as the primary quality advocate during sprint planning, backlog refinement, and release readiness  Cypress Test Automation (Primary Focus)  Design, build, and maintain scalable Cypress automation frameworks for:             End-to-end UI testing            API testing            Performance validation            Accessibility compliance testing  Drive high automation coverage and reliability using Cypress for regression and smoke testing  Establish Cypress testing patterns, conventions, and reusable utilities across teams  Leverage AI-assisted tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to accelerate Cypress test development, optimize test code, and reduce maintenance overhead  CI/CD & DevOps Integration  Integrate Cypress test suites into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and Docker  Define quality gates based on Cypress automation results  Partner with DevOps teams to improve pipeline reliability, execution time, and feedback loops  Analyze pipeline failures and improve Cypress test stability and performance  Manual & Exploratory Testing Oversight  Oversee manual testing activities including exploratory testing, regression validation, and UAT  Ensure Cypress automation complements—not replaces—critical exploratory and risk-based testing  Validate test coverage derived from user stories and acceptance criteria  Accessibility, Performance & Compliance  Ensure applications meet Section 508 / WCAG accessibility requirements, leveraging Cypress-integrated tools such as Axe and Lighthouse  Oversee performance and reliability testing practices for federal applications  Ensure compliance with federal QA documentation, audit, and reporting standards  Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement  Collaborate closely with developers, product owners, UX, and program leadership  Review acceptance criteria and ensure Cypress tests align with functional expectations  Communicate quality risks, trends, and release readiness clearly to stakeholders  Metrics & Continuous Improvement  Define and track quality metrics including:         Cypress automation coverage        Defect trends and escape rates        Test execution reliability  Use data-driven insights to continuously improve Cypress frameworks and test effectiveness    Required Qualifications  Candidate must reside in the United States - Ability to undergo Public Trust Clearance process 7+ years of experience in Software Quality Assurance, including leadership roles  Extensive hands-on experience with Cypress or equivalent  Strong background in JavaScript / TypeScript–based test automation  Proven experience integrating Cypress or equivalent into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Docker)  Strong understanding of Agile / Scrum development practices  Experience testing APIs  Demonstrated ability to manage quality across multiple teams or products  Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills    Preferred Qualifications  Experience in federal government or regulated environments  Familiarity with additional automation tools (Playwright, Selenium, REST Assured), with Cypress as the preferred standard  Experience conducting accessibility testing (Section 508 / WCAG)  Experience with performance testing strategies  Prior experience mentoring or managing QA engineers    Tools & Technologies  Primary Automation Tool: Cypress  Secondary/Familiarity: Playwright, Selenium, REST Assured  Languages: JavaScript / TypeScript, C#  CI/CD: Jenkins, Docker  Testing Types: E2E, API, Performance, Accessibility  Tracking & Collaboration: JIRA, TFS  Datastores: MongoDB, SQL Server
