Software Engineer Technician (onsite in Wilsonville, OR)

Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated Software Engineer Technician to support and enhance our custom Manufacturing Execution System (MES). This role is ideal for an early-career developer who enjoys solving real-world operational challenges and collaborating directly with end users.

You will work closely with manufacturing teams and a senior System Architect to maintain existing systems, implement enhancements, and gradually modernize components of the MES platform. The role requires both strong technical curiosity and a willingness to engage with users on-site to understand operational workflows.

This position provides an excellent opportunity to learn modern software development practices while delivering practical solutions that directly impact production operations.

Key Responsibilities

System Maintenance & Support

• Maintain and support the existing custom MES platform and related applications.
• Troubleshoot and resolve software issues affecting manufacturing operations.
• Monitor system performance and reliability, and implement improvements as needed.

Enhancements & Development

• Design and implement enhancements to improve the functionality, usability, and performance of MES tools.
• Develop and test new features in response to user feedback and operational requirements.
• Ensure code quality, maintainability, and adherence to established development standards.

User Collaboration

• Work on-site with manufacturing and operations teams to understand workflows and system needs.
• Translate user feedback into clear technical requirements.
• Deliver solutions that improve productivity, traceability, and data accessibility     

Learning & Technical Growth

• Work closely with the System Architect to learn modern software engineering practices.
• Apply new design patterns, architecture improvements, and development methodologies to ongoing enhancements.
• Participate in code reviews and technical discussions to improve engineering standards.

Innovation & Problem Solving

• Identify opportunities to improve MES capabilities and manufacturing workflows.
• Propose innovative technical solutions that meet operational needs while maintaining system stability.
• Deliver enhancements efficiently while staying on schedule and aligned with project priorities.

Required Qualifications

• 0–3 years of software development experience.
• Experience with at least one programming language (e.g., C#, Java, Python, JavaScript, or similar).
• Basic understanding of software development lifecycle and version control (Git).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical users

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to manufacturing systems, MES, or industrial software environments.
• Familiarity with databases and SQL.
• Experience working with APIs, integrations, or data-driven applications.
• Interest in learning modern architecture patterns, DevOps practices, and system design.
