Software Engineer

About the role 
As a Platform Engineer, you will contribute to designing, building, and maintaining scalable and secure platform solutions that support software development and deployment. You will play a key role in implementing Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), automation, and modern cloud-native practices. Working within a collaborative team, you will help improve system resilience, efficiency, and security while gaining mentorship opportunities to grow your technical expertise.

Key Responsibilities:
Platform Development and Maintenance:

• Assist in building, deploying, and managing scalable platform services using secure coding practices.
• Contribute to managing and troubleshooting Kubernetes clusters, containerized applications, and cloud-native solutions.
• Write and maintain automation scripts and tools (e.g., Helm, Terraform) for provisioning and scaling cloud infrastructure.
• Support efforts to improve platform health, security, and reliability in a collaborative environment.
• Identify and troubleshoot platform issues with guidance from senior engineers.

Engineering Excellence:

• Support the implementation of Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and automation for cloud infrastructure components (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
• Participate in the development of secure, performant internal platforms following container orchestration and microservices best practices.
• Assist in ensuring high system availability, including participation in on-call rotations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver solutions aligned with customer needs.
• Contribute to process improvements to enhance platform efficiency.

Learning and Collaboration:

• Actively participate in team discussions, knowledge-sharing sessions, and engineering communities of practice.
• Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging technologies in platform engineering.
• Seek feedback and mentorship to improve your technical and collaborative skills.

Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

Technical Skills:

• Kubernetes and Containerization: We welcome applicants with basic hands-on experience or a deep interest in Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud-native principles.
• Cloud Platforms: Familiarity with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
• GitOps and Automation: Basic understanding of GitOps principles and tools like ArgoCD, Helm, and Terraform.
• CI/CD Practices: Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Buildkite) to support deployment automation.
• Infrastructure-as-Code: Exposure to IaC tools and configuration management practices.

Problem-Solving and Collaboration:

• Strong problem-solving skills and a desire to learn from challenging technical scenarios.
• Good communication and teamwork skills to work effectively within a team and across functional areas.

The Workload Hosting (Engineering Platform) team at SEEK is dedicated to revolutionising the software engineering journey. Operating within SEEK's Engineering Platforms, our team is a cross-functional, multi-disciplinary team that work within APAC matrix organisational structure.   

The team is responsible for workload hosting part of Automat, SEEK’s internal developer platform, based on Cloud Native ecosystem on Kubernetes. The team is also responsible other developer systems such as Backstage and other internal tools for managing containerised workloads
