Professional Services Engineer

TLDR

As a Professional Services Engineer, you'll develop custom integrations and deliver technical solutions that directly impact client satisfaction and business efficiency.

For over 31,000 growing businesses and HR teams seeking a comprehensive, all-in-one HR suite, Workable emerges as the premier solution. We uniquely combine the world’s most widely adopted Applicant Tracking System (Workable Recruiting) with a full-spectrum employee management system (Workable HR). At Workable, we empower companies to focus on what truly matters: hiring the right people and fostering their growth.

While we take HR seriously, we maintain a lighthearted and collaborative culture. At Workable, you’ll find smart people who have fun, learn, innovate, and help others do the same. We respect everyone, we hire the best, and make sure every experience is special.

We're looking for a Professional Services Engineer to join our Professional Services team in Boston. This is a technical, hands-on engineering role — not a core product position. You'll be the technical execution layer behind Workable's custom delivery work, writing the code that makes complex client solutions real. You'll work closely alongside Implementation Managers, who own the client relationship — your job is to build what's needed, reliably and to a high standard.

If you're an engineer who takes pride in clean technical work, can navigate ambiguity, and wants to see the direct impact of what you build on real businesses — this role is for you.

What you'll do

Technical Delivery

  • Build and deploy custom integrations tailored to client needs — from scoping and requirements through to production
  • Execute data migrations, ensuring the secure and accurate transfer of legacy data into Workable
  • Develop SQL-based custom reports and data visualisations
  • Configure complex, customised feature sets within client accounts to meet specific business logic requirements
  • Build and maintain internal tooling, including requirement gathering, technical design documentation, and ongoing maintenance

Collaboration with Implementation Managers

  • Partner with IMs to define technical milestones within the broader project plan and provide accurate delivery timelines
  • Identify potential technical blockers early in the project lifecycle and propose practical workarounds
  • Support IMs during technical deep-dives with clients, translating complex technical processes into clear business outcomes
  • Document all custom configurations thoroughly so IMs can support clients post-delivery

Cross-Team Support

  • Collaborate with Tech Leads to test, document, and deploy custom solutions to internal standards
  • Act as a technical subject matter expert for Sales and Implementation teams
  • Provide API consultation and high-level technical support for non-technical colleagues

Requirements

What we're looking for

You must have:

  • 1–3 years of software engineering experience, preferably in Python
  • Solid SQL skills and experience working with databases
  • A BSc in Computer Science or equivalent (coding school + non-CS degree considered)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
  • Comfort working autonomously while keeping the right people informed

Nice to have:

  • Experience with AWS (Redshift, S3, EC2, Lambda)
  • Familiarity with the full SDLC
  • Experience with Kubernetes
  • Ruby or Ruby on Rails

Note: This role sits within Professional Services, not product engineering. The work is technically rigorous — you'll write real code solving real problems — but the output serves client delivery, not the core product roadmap. If that distinction excites you rather than puts you off, you'll thrive here.
