Software Engineer

AI overview

Join a dynamic engineering team that prioritizes rapid iteration and adaptive problem-solving to revolutionize healthcare through technology.

Nursa is a healthcare platform that directly addresses the severe staffing challenges confronting the U.S. healthcare system by connecting qualified registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), and certified nursing assistants (CNAs) seeking flexible work with facilities in need of help. Founded in 2019, we are a growing venture backed startup whose mission is to put a nurse at the bedside of every patient in need. With your help, we will be able to enrich the lives of nurses and be a valued partner in delivering effective, compassionate patient care in every market we serve.

About the Role

Our engineering culture is built for people who have likely been founders, early employees, or high-output freelancers in the past. Why? Because those backgrounds teach you that code only matters when it's in the hands of users.

We move at the speed of our learnings. You are comfortable pivoting based on new data, viewing shifts in direction as necessary steps toward product-market fit rather than disruptions. The mission you work on today might change next month based on market feedback, and you need to have the "belly" for that shift. You won't be siloed into a specific function; you will be expected to change teams and missions as business needs evolve. We need someone who will execute.

How we define an "Executor"

  • 80/20 Mentality: You know when a solution is "good enough" to ship and learn from. You prioritize product iteration velocity over future-proofing for theoretical scale.

  • Scrappy: You work backward from the product need, not forward from the technology you want to use.

  • Radical Ownership: You don't throw problems over the wall. You proactively unblock yourself, whether that requires technical work, design decisions, or talking to stakeholders.

The AI-Native Workflow

We are looking for engineers who were using LLMs for development before it was a mandate—people who stay up to date because they are genuinely curious. You should be already integrating tools like Cursor, Claude Code, or other agentic workflows into your daily development.

This goes beyond just code auto-completion. We expect you to:

  • Use agents for architecture and product development.

  • Effectively manage context to produce high-quality output with low hallucinations.

  • Understand exactly what the AI is generating (you are the pilot, not the passenger).

  • Use these tools to extend existing codebases and build end-to-end solutions faster and with fewer mistakes than a traditional workflow.

Why You Should Apply

  • You are a Builder first. You get restless if you haven't shipped something tangible recently.

  • You have "Greenfield" experience. You have demonstrable experience building complex features or products from scratch, ideally as a founder or freelancer where you owned the full outcome.

  • You are adaptable. You thrive in environments where the goalpost might move. You view change not as a disruption, but as a necessary part of relentlessly refining the user experience.

  • You are technically fearless. You are a full-stack engineer who is comfortable working across all domains. You contribute to the backend, frontend, and database as needed to deliver features successfully.

Why You Shouldn't Apply

  • You need a "definition of done" before you start. If you need a fully spec'd ticket and a project manager to guide your day, you will struggle in this role..

  • You prioritize "Perfect" over "Done." If you spend weeks optimizing code for over a million users when we need it to run well for thousands, this environment will frustrate you.

  • You treat AI as a cheat code rather than a force multiplier. If you paste code from LLMs without understanding the underlying logic or security implications, this isn't the place for you.

Qualifications

  • English Proficiency: Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with others. You have full professional proficiency in English, which is essential for clarity and precision. You value relationships and recognize that teams execute better together.

  • Experience: Experience in software engineering with a portfolio of shipping products from scratch. (Bonus points for previous Founder or Freelance experience).

  • Tech Stack: You have experience with NestJS (Typescript) and React Native, but more importantly you have the ability to pick up new languages and tools quickly.

  • AI Proficiency: Demonstrable workflow using AI agents (Cursor, Claude, etc.) to accelerate architecture and coding.

  • Communication: You act with candor. You can defend pragmatic decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders alike.

What you get in return:

  • Opportunity to revolutionize healthcare industry and build both relationships and teams that make a tangible impact

  • We empower team members to act intelligently and be owners, believing that execution is everything, and have designed a learning-focused environment where you get ongoing support and regular feedback to help you grow

  • An opportunity to join an international team with a work culture that is based on trust, flexibility, and curiosity

  • Monthly salary of $5,000-$7,000 USD

Closing:

Nursa is an equal opportunity employer. We aim to build a workforce of individuals from different backgrounds, with different abilities, identities, and mindsets. Even if you do not meet all of the qualifications listed above, we encourage you to apply!
