Software Engineer, Deployment

AI overview

Help GovWell streamline the deployment of government services, making processes faster and more systematic while impacting millions of residents.

🏛️ About GovWell

We the people (and the taxpayers) deserve good government — but today, interacting with government services is often frustrating and inefficient. GovWell is building the AI-powered platform that transforms how governments serve communities, starting with local agencies.

Our first product helps municipal and county governments modernize complex services like permitting and licensing. GovWell combines a highly configurable SaaS system of record with generative AI that automates work for staff, guides residents through services, and is radically simple to deploy.

Founded in 2023, GovWell powers 3,000+ critical processes for agencies in 29 states serving millions of residents. We’ve raised $9.5M in seed funding from Work-Bench and Bienville Capital, and work in person at our HQ in New York City. Read more about our founding story in TechCrunch.

☀️ Why GovWell?

  • A mission that matters: Building AI-powered products to fix outdated government systems isn’t just a technical challenge—it’s a historic opportunity to improve our foundational relationship with government and ensure trillions of tax dollars result in high quality services. 🌟 Role overview

GovWell is hiring a Software Engineer, Deployment to help us scale even faster in an industry known for slow, painful implementations.

While incumbents often take 18 months or more to get customers live, GovWell typically launches in 3 months or less. As we expand into larger and more complex enterprise environments, our goal is to make deployments not just fast, but also systematic and repeatable.

This role builds the systems, tooling, and abstractions that turn complex municipal realities into predictable launches. Your work will reduce time to go-live, lower marginal deployment cost, and help us scale enterprise revenue without slowing product development.

This is a hands-on, high-ownership engineering role in our NYC hybrid environment (3+ days per week in office).

💻 What you’ll do

  • Design and implement repeatable deployment frameworks that standardize how GovWell launches enterprise customers.

  • Build scalable migration and data tooling to import, transform, validate, and reconcile legacy datasets, including customer-specific geospatial (GIS) data.

  • Partner with customer-facing teams to unblock complex launches and convert one-off solutions into reusable systems.

  • Reduce time from signed contract to production go-live through automation, guardrails, and improved workflows.

  • Productize common enterprise requirements into configurable systems rather than bespoke implementations.

  • Define deployment standards and best practices to make launches safer and more predictable over time.

  • Build internal tooling that reduces manual effort and operational overhead for teams supporting live customers.

🧠 Who you are

  • 5+ years of experience as a backend or full-stack engineer in a production SaaS environment.

  • Strong systems thinker who can translate ambiguous real-world requirements into scalable technical abstractions.

  • Experience building data migration pipelines, ETL systems, or integration-heavy software.

  • Comfortable working directly with customers or client-facing teams on technical deployments, including explaining tradeoffs and gathering requirements.

  • Strong coding ability with experience shipping production systems.

  • High-ownership operator who prefers building durable systems over one-off fixes.

  • Clear written communicator who documents patterns, standards, and technical decisions effectively.

  • Advanced user of modern AI tools to accelerate debugging, prototyping, and execution.
