The Role
We’re preparing for a busy period with multiple client builds, and we need software engineers to help deliver new features and modules on top of our existing Pole Star platform. You’ll be working within a defined scope of work, focusing on feature delivery, enhancements, integrations, and reporting functionality rather than long-term ownership.
This is ideal for contractors who enjoy structured project work, working independently, and shipping improvements within an established product.
Key Responsibilities
Depending on the phase of the project, you’ll work on tasks such as:
- Building new modules and features on top of our existing core system
- Enhancing or refactoring legacy components (jQuery, Java 8, MySQL)
- Supporting reporting functionality (PDF, Excel, data exports)
- Implementing internal and third-party API integrations
- Improving existing asset management workflows for specific clients
- Contributing to AWS-related development tasks within the existing framework
- Writing clean, well-documented code
- Supporting QA for the areas you work on
- Collaborating with the engineering team for smooth integration
- Troubleshooting issues related to your scope of work
Essentials we are looking for…
- Strong backend or full-stack experience
- Hands-on AWS experience
- Experience delivering feature-based or module-based project work
- Strong API integration skills
- Comfort working with both modern and legacy codebases
- Good communication and the ability to work independently
- CI/CD, Git, and standard engineering tooling experience
Familiar with the following software/tools:
- Experience with infrastructure automation technologies like Docker, Vagrant, etc.
- Experience with build automation technologies like Maven, Jenkins, etc.
- Experience with monitoring technologies like Nagios, Ganglia, etc.
- Experience with modern programming languages like Java, Python, etc.
- Experience with building APIs and services using REST, SOAP, etc.
- Experience with scripting languages like Perl, Shell, etc.
- Linux Server Management, Shell scripting
Stuff we’d love, but isn’t essential...
- Kotlin, Swift, or Android/iOS knowledge
- Docker, ECS, Kubernetes
- Experience with reporting functionality
- GraphQL exposure
- Experience with remote/distributed engineering teams
- A level of travel will be required. (London)
