Position Description 

The Site Reliability/Data Engineer position, reporting to the Senior Business Systems Manager, will be responsible for design, build, and optimize our data infrastructure with a focus on Databricks, Python, and modern data engineering practices. This role will support data ingestion, transformation, and analytics across operational, financial, and production systems, enabling stakeholders to make informed decisions.  

The Site Reliability/Data Engineer will be responsible for supporting the infrastructure required to build and maintain CI/CD pipelines that automate testing and deployment. Additionally, they will ensure database maintenance and optimization to enable the efficient deployment of algorithms and applications within the renewable energy industry. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Work with Solar and Storage industry experts and data scientists to support the infrastructure environment needed to implement and deploy web applications which best meet the company’s needs.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD infrastructure to automate the testing and deployment of software components that include the frontend and backend services, internal tools and data workflows.  
  • Build and maintain monitoring, alerts and observability infrastructure and dashboards for visibility and performance improvement. 
  • Administer and optimize Databricks (clusters, jobs, permissions, performance, governance). 
  • Manage and tune SQL databases used in production analytics and operations.
  • Own and evolve our Azure-based infrastructure supporting apps, APIs, and data workloads. 
  • Document architecture, design decisions, and operational processes and contribute to continuous improvement in our engineering practices.  

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or other related technical field or relevant experience. 
  • 5+ years overall experience in software engineering or site reliability engineering. 
  • 2 years of experience in a cutting-edge site reliability role utilizing container orchestration technologies & infrastructure automation (Kubernetes, Docker, Puppet, Chef, etc.). 
  • Experience with public cloud infrastructure and services (preferably Azure) and IoT data ingestion. 
  • Prior 3 years’ experience in SQL DB Admin role and strong knowledge of procedural programming, performance tuning, and monitoring (SQL Server, Oracle or MySQL, etc.). 
  • Hands-on experience with Databricks and data engineering frameworks, including cluster administration, jobs/pipelines, secret scopes, workspace management, and monitoring. 
  • Experience with ETL and workflow management (AirFlow, Azure Data Factory).
  • Fluency in a significant array of varied scripting and programming languages; including but not limited to Python and bash. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Possess a deep understanding of backend infrastructure and proficiency at monitoring, logging, APIs, and production operations. 
  • Experience with visualization tools and reliability KPIs. 
  • Worked as a Lead or in an Individual Contributor role. 
  • Experience in the energy industry or renewable energy industry specifically will be a plus.
