Shared Services Financial Controller

LOCATION: Hounslow

SHIFT PATTERN: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week

Purpose 

Responsible for leading and managing the Shared Services financial reporting function for ABM UK. The role will ensure efficient, accurate, and timely delivery of monthly internal financial reporting to parent company and all external statutory reporting. Acting as a key business partner to operational and corporate teams, this role drives process excellence, standardisation, and continuous improvement across the Shared Services Centre. 

The postholder will maintain strong governance, compliance, and internal control standards, ensuring all financial activity aligns with ABM’s policies, procedures, and strategic objectives. 

Key Responsibilities 

Finance 

  • Lead and manage the Shared Services reporting function, ensuring robust delivery across GL, month end close and all external reporting. 
  • Oversee the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy and adherence to group reporting deadlines. 
  • Maintain oversight of general ledger postings and reconciliations for Shared Services activities. 
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, automation, and service quality. 
  • Partner with operational finance teams to ensure consistency in financial processes and controls. 
  • Control and manage all statutory audit and internal audit activities for all companies, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal policies and shortening filing timelines. 
  • Manage all tax reporting including VAT, Corporation Tax, Employment taxes, CIS and HMRC enquiries. 
  • Drive best-in-class service delivery through clear KPIs and performance reporting. 

Measures: 
On-time delivery of monthly close, reconciliations, and reporting. 
Compliance and audit outcomes. 
Working capital performance (DSO, DPO). 

 

Leadership 

  • Build and sustain a high-performing Shared Services team through strong leadership and clear objectives. 
  • Coach, develop, and mentor direct reports, ensuring clear succession and talent development plans. 
  • Drive a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and customer focus. 
  • Manage performance proactively and address underperformance in line with company procedures. 
  • Foster an inclusive and collaborative team culture.

Performance reviews completed on time. 
Employee engagement scores. 
Talent development and retention rates. 

 

Administration & Operations 

  • Ensure supplier and employee payments are processed accurately and on time. 
  • Maintain robust reconciliations for key control accounts. 
  • Analyse and communicate performance against SLAs and KPIs to management. 
  • Identify and drive cost-saving opportunities within Shared Services operations. 

Measures: 
Reduction in processing errors. 
Improved invoice and payment turnaround times. 
Aged debt reduction.

Skills and Experience 

Qualifications: 

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent). 
  • Strong technical accounting background with a deep understanding of shared services environments. 

Experience: 

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience leading a shared services or central finance team. 
  • Proven track record of improving processes and implementing system enhancements. 
  • Experience managing multi-site or multi-entity financial operations. 
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams. 
  • Hands on experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar). 
  • Knowledge of SOX implementation.
