We are seeking a Service Testing Technician to perform electrical testing, inspection, and troubleshooting of transformers and switchgear equipment. The role focuses on ensuring reliable electrical performance through diagnostic evaluation, safety compliance, and accurate technical reporting for equipment operated in facility and customer environments.

Primary work involves electrical testing of transformers, circuit breakers, and switchgear systems. Candidates should have approximately 2 years of experience in electrical testing, manufacturing, or equipment diagnostics and be comfortable working in industrial settings.

Travel may account for about 35% of work assignments. The company provides support for hotel accommodations, per diem expenses, and fuel costs during customer site visits.

The technician will conduct detailed electrical diagnostic testing, including insulation resistance, turns ratio, winding resistance, power factor, hi-pot, induced tests, and load evaluation procedures.

Strong safety awareness is required when operating industrial equipment, handling transformer insulation oil, and working around high-voltage electrical components.

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical testing of transformers, switchgear, and circuit breakers in facility and field environments.
  • Execute diagnostic evaluations such as turns ratio, insulation resistance, winding resistance, power factor, and high-potential testing.
  • Identify performance abnormalities and assist in troubleshooting electrical equipment issues.
  • Document test results and prepare detailed technical reports for supervisors and quality teams.
  • Operate forklifts and industrial handling equipment within load capacity and safety standards.
  • Manage transformer insulation oil processes, including draining and filling operations.
  • Inspect internal transformer connections when authorized to do so.
  • Follow environmental containment and workplace safety policies.
  • Communicate equipment conditions and testing outcomes professionally.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • About 2 years of experience in electrical testing, manufacturing support, or similar technical work.
  • Knowledge of transformer and switchgear testing methods.
  • Ability to use electrical testing instruments, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Basic understanding of transformer insulation materials and troubleshooting principles.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in hot or cold industrial conditions.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 35% of work time.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Certifications

  • First Aid/CPR and AED training.
  • OSHA 10 safety certification.
