Overview

As a Senior User Experience Designer, you will be essential in developing user-centered experiences for both in-vehicle systems and mobile applications. This role requires a profound understanding of user needs and behaviors, allowing you to create innovative and functional designs that enhance usability. You will collaborate with a variety of cross-functional teams (ex. software and engineering) to ensure that your designs align with our brand's mission while improving user interaction with our products. Your expertise in balancing aesthetics with functionality will be key to delivering seamless and engaging user experiences

What you’ll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

  • Lead the translation of the SCOUT brand promise and strategy into production-ready, user-centered design solutions for in-vehicle interfaces and companion mobile apps.
  • Deliver complete UX flows and edge cases that reflect production-level detail and engineering feasibility, ensuring all designs are implementation-ready.
  • Mentor and guide designers in developing user flows, user stories, wireframes, and high-fidelity visual designs that express the SCOUT brand voice across digital touchpoints.
  • Oversee the integration of mental models, user journeys, information architecture, and interaction patterns to create intuitive, cohesive, and functional experiences that enhance user satisfaction.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, product management, vehicle systems, and UX research to define and refine features that align with both business goals and brand objectives.
  • Champion and evolve the Community UX Design System, ensuring consistency, scalability, and accessibility across vehicle and mobile ecosystems.
  • Partner with development teams to ensure accurate execution of UX specifications through to production release.
  • Manage multiple high-impact projects, balancing hands-on design leadership with strategic oversight and clear communication to stakeholders and executives.

Location & Travel Expectations:

  • This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Fremont, CA or Novi, MI. 
  • The responsibilities of this role require daily attendance in office with in-person meetings and events regularly. 
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

  • Must have portfolio demonstrating production vehicle user experience work— not just concepts or show-car prototypes. Applications without production vehicle UX experience will not be considered.
  • Minimum 7 years of professional experience as a user experience designer, with a significant emphasis on automotive applications.
  • Demonstrated experience in crafting user experiences that are production-ready, specifically for automotive systems such as instrument clusters, head units, and other in-vehicle controls.
  • A portfolio that showcases exceptional skills in automotive user experience design, with a strong emphasis on user-centered design principles, interaction design, and feature implementation.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with industry-standard design tools such as Figma and Adobe Suite, with a focus on creating comprehensive user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity clickable prototypes.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading and implementing user experience projects from concept through to production, ensuring adherence to technical and industry-specific standards.
  • Strong mentorship skills and experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, along with the ability to advocate for user needs throughout the design process.
  • Availability to travel up to 10% of the time for collaboration, research, and project implementation
  • Minimum of High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required for all roles at Scout Motors, Inc.

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $140,000.00 - $170,000.00

Initial California base salary range = $154,000 - $187,000
