The successful candidate will issue recommendations and have influence on the system verification and validation of the Telesat Lightspeed system.
Main Responsibilities:
Develop verification matrices for feeder and user link system requirements, including: Spectrum usage, carrier sizes, polarization, power control
Link establishment, maintenance, and degradation scenarios
Design and execute tests validating: Feeder/User link coverage and elevation limits, Spectrum assignment by UT/LS location, Link behavior under fading, interference, and outage conditions
Serve as Link Layer SME for DVB‑S2X, DVB‑RCS2, and Ka‑band link operation.
Perform hands‑on link testing in the LEO Lab, including: Channel emulation, Link impairments, Carrier aggregation and spectrum flexibility
Configure and operate satellite link emulators, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and traffic generators.
Ensure product under test meets technical, functional, performance and business requirements.
Work closely with antenna vendors, modem teams, and RF engineers to validate end‑to‑end link behavior.
Support OTA test planning and execution for feeder and user links.
Support System Acceptance Planning activities for the LEOP and IOT.
Work with other segments like DevOps, Ground Systems, Satellite and foster a collaborative and innovative environment
Education & Experience Required:
B. Sc. in Electrical, Computer or System Engineering and a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in satellite communications
5+ years of work experience in different antenna types like Flat Panel Antenna, Parabolic and Aero Antenna (Ka band preferable)
5+ years of work experience in Satellite RF communication systems with strong exposure on modulation and coding used in modern standards like DVB-S2(X) and DVB-RCS2
Strong understanding of RF engineering Principles, Design Practices, Feeder/User link test design, validation, and testing.
Hands on experience using RF test equipment (Oscilloscopes, Signal Generators, Spectrum Analyzers, satellite channel emulator)
Strong understanding of Ka‑band link budgets, polarization, ACM, and interference effects.
Demonstrated understanding of air interfaces, modem technologies, modulation and coding and its impact on the satellite link performance
Experience with satellite link budget analyses with good understanding of effects of impairments on the link performance
Experience in test case and defect tracking tools (Jira, Jama)
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with management, engineering teams and partners / suppliers.
Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
Experience working with geographically dispersed teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with different Ka band antenna vendors
Experience with Flat Panel Antenna and Aero Antenna (Ka band preferable)
Experience with BUC/LNB and various Antenna technologies
Experience in Planning activities for the LEOP and IOT.
Highly collaborative team player who can quickly earn the confidence of co-workers and teammates
Experience in MEF standards.
Proficient with MATLAB, Python, or similar
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Working Conditions:
The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP).
