We’re seeking a Senior Environment Technical Artist with a broad technical and artistic skill set to help bring new core gameplay systems and environments to life. You’ll collaborate closely with designers, engineers, and artists to deliver high-quality player experiences and define the pipelines and workflows that make them possible.
This role is ideal for a trailblazing technical artist, someone who thrives in ambiguity, enjoys building new solutions from the ground up, and can chart the right path forward to deliver elegant, reliable tools and systems that empower the team.
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate with Gameplay Designers, Engineers, and Artists to develop and implement new game features.
- Design and build prototypes and proof-of-concept experiences to explore innovative gameplay ideas.
- Establish and document initial pipelines that can be scaled and refined for full production use.
- Balance product goals, technical trade-offs, player experience, and timelines, ensuring features are scoped and delivered effectively.
- Review and improve technical pipelines and workflows used by the art team for environment creation and asset integration.
- Offer hands-on support for artists, helping troubleshoot and resolve integration or performance issues.
- Train and mentor artists in new tools and workflows, focusing on usability, scalability, and technical grace.
- Participate in planning and reviews, advocating for technical awareness and helping shape the project’s strategic direction.
Who You Are
- You’ve worked as an Environment Technical Artist on at least one shipped game or product.
- You’ve shipped a project in Unreal Engine as a technical artist.
- You’re comfortable wearing many hats, from prototyping to production—to move the product forward.
- You have a proven track record of designing pipelines and workflows that empower artists and improve production efficiency.
- You’re known for identifying issues early, unblocking teams, and navigating ambiguity with clarity and confidence.
- You’re curious, adaptable, and self-motivated, always seeking better solutions and learning new tools or techniques.
- You’re the go-to problem solver for artists, trusted for your technical insight and collaborative spirit.
Nice to Have:
- Proficiency with C++ programming in Unreal Engine.
- Background in cozy, simulation, or multiplayer game development.
- Experience working in early-stage game development or small, agile studios.
- Experience working with Nanite and Lumen in Unreal Engine.
Salary Information:
The base salary range in the Vancouver Metro Area for a Senior Technical Artist (Environment) position is $115,920 - $136,902 (CAD) annually. Base salary will be determined by role, level, and location. The range listed for each job is the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the positions in the Vancouver Metro area. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors. Please discuss your specific salary expectations for your preferred location during our interview process.
