Senior Technical Architect
TLDR
Own the architectural strategy and evolve the global SaaS platform while leading AI integration and mentoring engineering teams.
Natterbox is seeking a Senior Technical Architect to own the architectural integrity and long-term technical evolution of our global SaaS platform. This is a leadership-first role designed for an expert who proactively shapes technical direction, rather than waiting to be directed.
You will be responsible for the "big picture" of our platform, ensuring that our backend services, cloud infrastructure, and real-time telecoms components are scalable, reliable, and ready for an AI-enabled future. This role is not just about designing systems; it’s about raising the engineering bar across the entire organisation. You will mentor senior engineers, identify and mitigate technical debt, and act as the primary voice for architectural clarity within the Engineering and Product teams.
What you will do:
- Drive Architectural Strategy: Own the roadmap for our multi-tenant SaaS platform, ensuring it supports our global expansion and high-performance requirements.
- Lead the AI Revolution: Architect and embed AI/ML capabilities across the Natterbox platform, translating emerging technologies into production-ready features.
- Engineering Mentorship: Champion a culture of excellence by leading design reviews, establishing documentation standards, and coaching engineers to become future technical leaders.
- Governance & Risk Management: Proactively identify "institutional knowledge" risks and ensure our systems are documented, observable, and resilient.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with the Head of Engineering and Product leadership to align technical decisions with our long-term product vision.
Requirements
Essential Experience & Skills:
- SaaS Architecture: 8+ years of software engineering experience with a proven track record of designing and evolving complex, multi-tenant SaaS platforms at scale.
- Cloud Expertise: Deep, hands-on experience with AWS cloud architecture (preferred) or Azure, specifically across multiple regions.
- Technical Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and influence engineering teams without necessarily having direct line management authority.
- Ecosystem Integration: Experience integrating complex SaaS platforms with Salesforce or equivalent CRM platforms at an architectural level.
- Pragmatic Problem Solving: A track record of reducing technical debt and institutional knowledge risk while balancing short-term delivery needs with long-term platform health.
- Communication: Exceptional ability to translate complex architectural concepts for both technical teams and non-technical business stakeholders.
Highly Desirable (Nice-to-haves):
- AI/ML Experience: Experience architecting or evolving AI-enabled products or integrating ML frameworks into a global production environment.
- Telecoms Knowledge: Familiarity with real-time communications systems, telephony infrastructure, or VoIP.
- Frameworks: Knowledge of architectural frameworks such as TOGAF, C4, or similar models.
- Governance Setup: Experience establishing principal engineer or architecture governance functions within a growing organisation.
AI & Emerging Technology (Highly Desirable):
- AI Roadmap Leadership: Experience architecting or evolving AI-enabled products and a clear understanding of how to embed AI models and pipelines into a broader SaaS system.
- Frameworks & Tools: Experience evaluating and selecting AI/ML frameworks, tools, and infrastructure patterns appropriate for a global, multi-tenant environment.
- AI Engineering Standards: A track record of embedding good AI engineering practices, ensuring systems are designed for reliability, observability, and responsible use.
Other Desirable Experience:
- Telecoms Knowledge: Familiarity with real-time communications systems, telephony infrastructure, or VoIP.
- Architectural Frameworks: Knowledge of frameworks such as TOGAF, C4, or similar models.
- Governance Setup: Experience establishing principal engineer or architecture governance functions within a growing organisation.
Location & Flexibility
This is a remote-first role, offering you the flexibility to work from your home office anywhere within the UK.
While we are a distributed team, we still value the "human" element of collaboration. There will be occasional requirements to meet in person at a central UK location (typically London) for purposeful sessions such as quarterly strategic planning, architectural workshops, or team-building events.
Requirements:
- You must have a valid right to work in the UK at the time of application.
- Please note that we are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.
Our Recruitment Process
We value your time and aim for a transparent, two-way discovery process. Here is what you can expect:
- Initial Discovery Call (30 mins): A conversation with our People Team to discuss your background, your approach to leadership, and what you’re looking for in your next role.
- Technical & Values Interview (60 mins): A deeper dive with our Head of Engineering into your architectural experience, AWS expertise, and how you mentor and grow engineering teams.
- Final Stage: Architecture Pitch & Leadership Panel (90 mins): You will be asked to prepare a short architectural pitch based on a hypothetical Natterbox scenario. This is followed by a Q&A session with our Engineering and Product leadership to see how we’ll work together.
