Senior Tax Accountant, Public Accounting Firm

We’re looking for an experienced Tax Accountant / CPA to join a growing public accounting practice in Greensboro, North Carolina. This role focuses on tax preparation, compliance, and strategic tax advisory services for a diverse client base including individuals, partnerships, corporations, and trusts.

The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise in federal and state tax regulations and is comfortable managing multiple tax engagements during busy filing periods. This position involves direct client interaction, tax planning support, and collaboration with internal accounting professionals to deliver accurate and reliable tax services.

This opportunity is well suited for a detail-oriented tax professional who enjoys problem solving, building long-term client relationships, and contributing to a collaborative accounting environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review federal and state income tax returns for individuals and business entities
• Provide tax planning strategies to help clients minimize tax liability and improve financial outcomes
• Conduct tax research to ensure compliance with current laws, regulations, and filing requirements
• Communicate directly with clients regarding filings, documentation, and advisory recommendations
• Respond to IRS and state tax authority correspondence, notices, and audit inquiries
• Assist with quarterly tax projections and annual planning strategies
• Maintain organized documentation, workpapers, and digital tax records
• Collaborate with accounting team members on complex tax engagements
• Monitor regulatory changes and communicate relevant updates to clients and internal teams

Requirements

Active CPA license required (or actively pursuing CPA with strong tax experience)

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

• Minimum 3+ years of public accounting tax experience

• Strong understanding of federal and state tax codes

• Experience with tax preparation software and accounting systems

• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

• Ability to manage multiple client engagements and tax deadlines

• Professional communication skills and client-focused mindset

Preferred Experience

• Master’s degree in Taxation or Accounting
• Experience with complex entity returns including partnerships and corporations
• Familiarity with tax planning strategies for small businesses and high-net-worth individuals
