Senior Systems/Networks Engineer (Tier 3)

TLDR

Oversee and enhance critical server and Unix OS subsystems, actively participating in SRE/DevOps activities and collaborating with network teams.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Systems/Networks Engineer to join the team.

We expect the Senior Systems/Networks Engineer to:

  • Oversee and manage critical server and Unix OS subsystems, ensuring optimal configuration and performance,
  • Maintain network equipment (Cisco),
  • Maintain datacenter facilities (on-prem),
  • Maintain cloud environments (AWS, GCP),
  • Be active on the assistance for developers, participate in SRE/DevOps activities,
  • Collaborate with network and security teams in aligning infrastructure with organizational policies and requirements,
  • Implement and maintain system monitoring, backup, recovery, and automation solutions,
  • Architect, design, install and configure managed installations, cloud-based clusters/networks.
  • Automate cloud and hybrid (on-prem/cloud) platform and systems deployment, including load-based auto-scaling approaches,
  • Be proactive in identifying and troubleshooting problems in testing and production environments (generating solutions and bug reports when required) and monitoring network/systems health and status, and continuously making improvements,
  • Solve critical problems in network environments (multicast routing/latency issues/packet loss/etc) and in Systems, platforms, and data such as: unavailability/ outage/ inconsistency/ misconfiguration/ data delays/ etc.),
  • Diagnose complex issues within network stack, including low-level packet capture and OS system analysis,
  • Be engaged into on-call rotation to ensure 24x7x365 coverage for critical core and customer issues,
  • Provide hands-on guidance and mentorship to junior systems engineers, ensuring quality and timelines,
  • Contribute to documentation, best practices, and process improvements within the project or business unit,
  • Communicate with clients and partner companies’ engineers on technical subjects.

Must-have skills: 

  • 3+ years of experience in UNIX/Linux administration and/or Networking,
  • Experience in Amazon Compute Cloud,
  • In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP and ISO/OSI stack,
  • Solid experience with networking (routing, switching, IP, TCP, UDP, BGP, EIGRP, VPN, DNS) and Cisco IOS,
  • Knowledge of IP Multicast (RP, PIM, IGMP),
  • Technical knowledge to ensure safe, effective, and efficient changes to the network and systems infrastructure
  • CI/CD and DevOps/SRE activities experience,
  • Proficiency in shell script languages: awk, perl, etc
  • Preferred experience in cluster technologies and high availability systems,
  • Experience in solving complex problems and the ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously,
  • Strong analysis, investigation, and troubleshooting skills,
  • Good written and spoken English language.

Nice-to-have skills: 

  • Understanding high-performance, high-throughput, and low-latency network technologies,
  • Knowledge of Java programming language,
  • Experience with CDN architectures,
  • Experience with WAN technologies,
  • Experience with Trading/Exchange/Risk management software usage and management,
  • Experience in working with GIT, Ansible, nginx, haproxy, and similar technologies,
  • Experience with Atlassian software (JIRA, Confluence, etc.).
