The Sr. Systems Administrator (Unix/Linux) is a pivotal role at American Operations Corporation, responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and optimization of our Unix and Linux environment. In this senior capacity, you will be expected to implement best practices in system administration, ensure high levels of availability, and provide guidance to junior staff while collaborating with various IT teams to meet organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer and maintain Unix/Linux servers, ensuring optimal performance and availability through systematic monitoring and proactive management.
  • Design and implement efficient system architecture and configurations to support business applications and processes.
  • Conduct routine system audits and performance tuning, ensuring all systems are secure, up-to-date, and compliant with relevant policies and standards.
  • Automate repetitive administrative tasks through scripting and development of monitoring solutions to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Develop and manage backup and disaster recovery plans for Unix/Linux systems to protect data integrity and ensure swift recovery in case of incidents.
  • Troubleshoot complex system and application issues, providing expert-level support and resolution.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams for system integration, deployment, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of system architectures, configurations, and operational procedures.
  • Mentor and train junior administrators and contribute to the development of training materials and programs.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies related to Unix/Linux systems, sharing knowledge and best practices across the team.

Requirements

  • Six (6) years of professional experience in Unix and/or Linux system administration of networks and software systems.
  • Experience in system backup and recovery; basic software management; security management and library management; installation and configuration of hardware; operational systems and COTS software; operating computer systems in different operating environments; and sizing, performance, tuning, hardware/software/network trouble shooting and resource allocation.
  • Qualified experience in different network protocols including TCP/IP and major network security tools such as: firewalls, knowledge of computing and networking vulnerabilities, attach methods and latest detection methods. This position is required to be designated as IAT III level with a T5.
  • Must have one of the certifications below:

CASP, CISSP, CCNP, CISA, GCED, GCIH, or CCSP.

  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Active top secret security clearance.
