Senior Streaming Systems Engineer

TLDR

Lead the in-house development of Airtame's native wireless display protocol stack, enhancing performance and delivering production-quality implementations for multiple protocols.

There's a reason most companies license their AirPlay, Google Cast, and Miracast support rather than build it. Getting from protocol spec to a reliable, performant receiver means reverse engineering undocumented behavior, supporting codec profiles across generations of sender devices, and solving synchronization and latency problems that only surface at scale on real networks. If you've done this work, you know how few companies even attempt it.

You probably also know that most roles in this space keep you in one layer — the transport, the decoder, the rendering pipeline. It's less common to find a seat where you'd shape the entire stack end to end, on hardware that ships to thousands of real environments.

Airtame makes a hardware-software platform that turns any screen into a wireless collaboration tool — used across schools, universities, and offices worldwide. We're bringing our native wireless display protocol stack in-house, replacing a third-party dependency with our own implementations of AirPlay, Google Cast, and Miracast on embedded Linux. This role leads that effort.

We are a 50+ person company headquartered in Copenhagen with a product team distributed across Europe. We're a hardware+SaaS business — which means you'll work with people who think in physical constraints, not just cloud abstractions.

We're a Danish company, so high trust, flat hierarchy, and real work-life balance are a default mode of operations. What's more relevant: you'd join an engineering team that's already shipping, with deep context on the product and platform, but needs dedicated protocol-level expertise to push this project forward. You'd be the authority in the room on streaming protocols, not learning on the job.

What Success Looks Like (Year 1)

  • Build the Native Protocol Stack
Deliver working, production-quality implementations of AirPlay, Google Cast, and Miracast on Airtame's embedded Linux hardware — replacing the current third-party dependency with something we fully own.
  • Raise the Streaming Ceiling
Expand codec support (H.264, VP8, VP9, AV1, Opus, AAC), push resolution and performance boundaries, and improve latency and synchronization under real-world network conditions.
  • Establish the Playbook
Document protocol behavior, architecture decisions, and edge cases so the team can maintain and extend the stack beyond your initial implementation. Make the knowledge transferable.
  • Stretch Into Adjacent Systems
Contribute to Airtame's Chromium-based embedded browser, native firmware, or desktop applications — if you have the background and the curiosity.

Who You Are

  • The Protocol Surgeon
You've reverse engineered or built receivers for wireless display protocols before. You're comfortable working from packet captures when the docs are incomplete — and you know they usually are.
  • The Systems Thinker
You work across the full media pipeline — network transport, codec negotiation, decoding, rendering, synchronization — and you understand how a decision in one layer ripples through the rest.
  • The Embedded Pragmatist
You write C/C++ for constrained environments and you've shipped on embedded Linux. Rust is a plus. You're used to working with hardware interfaces, GPU-accelerated decoding, and the realities of running on actual silicon rather than a beefy cloud instance.
  • The Network Realist
You think about streaming performance in terms of real networks — congested WiFi, variable latency, mixed device ecosystems. You've debugged problems that only appear in the field.
