The Senior Solution Engineer, Insurance will be a technical expert and key contributor within the Solutions Engineering team at Nearmap, specifically focused on supporting clients in the property & casualty (P&C) insurance industry. This role will involve deep technical knowledge of Nearmap’s platform, including 2D, 3D, and AI technologies, to help clients solve business challenges related to underwriting, claims, and risk management. Working alongside cross-functional teams such as Product, Engineering, and Technology, the Senior Solution Engineer will develop tailored solutions and deliver compelling product demonstrations to showcase the value of Nearmap's content and technology in driving better decision-making and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

Client Engagement and Insurance-Specific Support:

  • Lead technical discussions with P&C insurance clients to understand their unique workflows in underwriting, claims, and risk mitigation.
  • Conduct customized product demonstrations showcasing Nearmap’s geospatial solutions, focusing on applications in claims assessment, risk scoring, and underwriting decisions.
  • Drive Proof of Concept (POC) processes to demonstrate the value of Nearmap’s solutions in specific insurance use cases, such as post-catastrophe analysis, risk profiling, and claims triage.
  • Respond to insurance-specific RFIs/RFPs, tailoring technical responses to address client pain points and regulatory requirements.
  • Build scenario-based demo scripts that address real-world insurance scenarios, such as property inspections, loss-control evaluations, and damage assessment.

Solution Development for Insurance Applications:

  • Collaborate with Sales, Product, and Engineering teams to create custom workflows that align with insurance customer requirements, leveraging Nearmap’s AI, 3D, and imagery capabilities.
  • Design and deliver workflows that support faster claims resolution, improved risk selection, and accurate property condition assessment.
  • Develop solutions that integrate Nearmap’s data into insurance client systems for use in applications like underwriting automation, claims automation, and geospatial risk modeling.
  • Support insurance clients with best practices for integrating Nearmap’s data with their systems, including underwriting platforms, GIS, and policy management systems.
  • Serve as a technical liaison to provide feedback from insurance customers to Product and Engineering teams, helping shape future product features and enhancements that align with industry trends

Insurance Industry Expertise and Knowledge Transfer:

  • Educate internal teams and clients on Nearmap’s roadmap with a specific focus on new features and enhancements relevant to insurance applications.
  • Provide training for Solutions Engineers and other technical staff on insurance-focused use cases, products, and best practices.
  • Create industry-specific technical content, such as whitepapers and presentations, to support customer onboarding and engagement in the insurance space.
  • Attend industry conferences, webinars, and events as a Nearmap representative to showcase insurance-focused solutions and build industry credibility.

Relationship Management:

  • Cultivate strong relationships with insurance clients, acting as a trusted advisor on how Nearmap’s technology can address their business goals in claims, underwriting, and risk assessment.
  • Regularly gather feedback from clients to ensure Nearmap’s solutions are delivering value in insurance-specific applications.
  • Act as the voice of the customer within Nearmap, advocating for product improvements that directly benefit insurance workflows.

5+ years of experience in a technical role, with a strong preference for candidates with experience in technical presales or solution engineering in the insurance or geospatial industry.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Engineering, or a related STEM field.
  • Expertise in geospatial data and remote sensing, with the ability to apply these to insurance-specific use cases.
  • Direct experience supporting the insurance industry, particularly in property underwriting, claims processes, or risk analysis is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Python or another programming language (e.g., JavaScript, SQL) to build and support custom solutions.
  • Strong technical understanding of SaaS products, REST APIs, and geospatial data integration.
  • Experience in enterprise selling.
  • Exceptional presentation skills, with the ability to communicate technical details to both insurance and non-technical audiences.
  • Familiarity with insurance-relevant technologies and datasets, such as condition scoring, damage detection, and AI-based risk modeling.
  • Self-driven, organized, and capable of managing multiple projects.
  • Customer-focused with strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to delivering value in every client interaction.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to the changing needs of insurance clients.
  • Willingness to travel to meet with clients and attend industry events as needed.
