Lead the Connected Devices Cloud team to enhance cloud services for critical law enforcement tools, directly impacting officer safety and community trust.

Join Axon and be a Force for Good.

At Axon, we’re on a mission to Protect Life. We’re explorers, pursuing society’s most critical safety and justice issues with our ecosystem of devices and cloud software. Like our products, we work better together. We connect with candor and care, seeking out diverse perspectives from our customers, communities and each other.

Life at Axon is fast-paced, challenging and meaningful. Here, you’ll take ownership and drive real change. Constantly grow as you work hard for a mission that matters at a company where you matter.

Your Impact

The Connected Devices Cloud team builds and operates the cloud services that connect Axon devices — including body‑worn cameras, in‑car systems, ALPR, and other wireless peripherals — to Axon’s cloud ecosystem, enabling secure provisioning, real‑time telemetry, streaming, device management, and evidence workflows at global scale.
As a Senior Engineering Manager (L9) for Connected Devices Cloud, you will:

  • Lead and scale multiple cloud engineering teams in Vietnam that own mission‑critical device cloud workflows used by public safety agencies worldwide.
  • Drive CD Cloud’s technical and organizational roadmap, raising the bar on reliability, latency, cost efficiency, and developer productivity across services and APIs.
  • Build and coach a strong management bench (EMs and Senior ICs), shaping the engineering culture of the Vietnam hub through clear expectations, feedback, and growth paths.
  • Partner closely with product, QA, security, device, and app teams to ship end‑to‑end capabilities that feel seamless to our customers and to the officers who rely on Axon every day.

This is a high‑leverage leadership role: your decisions will influence how all Connected Devices Cloud teams plan, build, ship, and operate software that directly impacts officer safety and community trust.

What You’ll Do

People & Organizational Leadership

  • Lead and grow multiple cloud teams (through EMs and senior engineers) delivering services for Connected Devices Cloud, with clear ownership boundaries and accountability.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop 2–3 Engineering Managers and/or ~15–30 engineers, ensuring healthy span of control, sustainable team structures, and succession planning.
  • Run effective 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development plans; provide candid, actionable feedback that helps people grow while maintaining trust and psychological safety.
  • Hire, onboard, and retain top talent in Vietnam; partner closely with Recruiting and other EMs to maintain a consistent hiring bar and a strong candidate pipeline for CD Cloud.
  • Model Axon values in how you communicate, make decisions, and handle conflict; set cultural expectations for multiple teams and recognize both individual and team‑level excellence.

Execution & Delivery

  • Own planning and execution for your organization’s ZBB initiatives and roadmap deliverables across several teams and services.
  • Establish predictable execution by clarifying scope, managing dependencies, tracking progress and quality metrics, and communicating risks and trade‑offs to stakeholders early.
  • Partner with product managers, other EMs and TPMs to sequence work, balance new feature delivery with OE/KTLO and technical debt, and keep teams focused on the highest‑impact outcomes.
  • Drive continuous improvement in planning, estimation, and review mechanisms for CD Cloud (e.g., MBR inputs, State of Cloud reviews, ZBB cycles).

Technical Leadership & Architecture

  • Provide hands‑on technical leadership: review designs, challenge assumptions, and guide teams toward sound architectural decisions for distributed cloud systems in production.
  • Own and evolve key cloud domains supporting device workflows (e.g., device connectivity, metadata, session management, firmware workflows, telemetry pipelines), in partnership with Staff Engineers and other EMs.
  • Champion reliability and resilience: define and track SLOs, lead and participate in AARs, and ensure teams implement guardrails like rate limiting, graceful degradation, and safe rollout mechanisms.
  • Support the adoption of shared platform capabilities such as Dual Cloud, MED (multi‑environment deployment), E2E test automation, and standardized observability across CD Cloud services.

Operations & Quality

  • Own operational excellence across multiple teams: on‑call health, incident response quality, post‑incident follow‑through, and reduction of repeated failure modes.
  • Ensure teams have robust monitoring, alerting, logging, and dashboards; use operational data to drive OE investments and prioritize high‑leverage fixes over one‑off firefighting.
  • Guide the teams to partner with QA to “shift left” on quality, ensuring engineers own meaningful automated test coverage (unit, integration, E2E) and that new features enter Shiproom with clear test plans and risk analysis.
  • Help the teams to collaborate with DRE and APX to support cloud cost goals, helping your teams balance performance, redundancy, and cost efficiency in how they design and operate services.

Cross‑Functional & Cross‑Pillar Collaboration

  • Join forces with device firmware, apps, QA, and DEMS/APX teams on cross‑pillar initiatives that touch critical device workflows, ensuring CD Cloud plays a proactive, solution‑oriented role.
  • Represent Vietnam engineering and CD Cloud in global forums (e.g., MBRs, State of Cloud, cross‑pillar design reviews), helping align priorities, share learnings, and influence broader Axon practices.
  • Contribute to pillar‑wide mechanisms (e.g., Path‑to‑Staff, quality initiatives, hiring strategy) that strengthen technical leadership and execution across Connected Devices.
