WHAT YOU'LL DO
Drive architectural decisions: Design features for high-availability and scale, aiming for appropriate complexity ("as simple as possible, but no simpler"). You will ensure monitoring, logging, and graceful degradation are built in from the start, never as afterthoughts.
Steer delivery & planning: Protect the team's focus by prioritizing finishing work over starting new tasks, and explicitly weigh cost versus value to identify where small investments unlock the most business value.
Connect tech to business: Explain technical trade-offs to stakeholders in the terms they care about most: cost, time, risk, and capability.
Multiply your impact: Lift the skills of those around you by developing teammates, mentoring colleagues through detailed feedback, and sponsoring stretch assignments.
Set the quality bar: Establish team standards for AI-augmented development to prevent quality erosion, and embed "security by design" and threat modeling into the team's daily workflows.
WHO YOU ARE
You have 5+ years of experience building high-availability, high-transaction systems in production using Java and cloud-based solutions (preferably AWS).
A technical product thinker: You naturally view problems from a business perspective, focusing on customer outcomes rather than over-engineering solutions for the sake of technical elegance.
Comfortable in ambiguity: You do not wait for perfect clarity; you make timely decisions, define problems when they are unclear, and do not let uncertainty become paralysis.
A boundary-spanning collaborator: You proactively cross team boundaries to solve problems, building relationships before they are urgently needed and navigating difficult conversations directly.
Operationally driven: You have a veteran instinct for spotting systemic failure modes, catching subtle vulnerabilities, and identifying operational risks long before they impact availability.
