About the Role:

The Legos team is primarily tasked with moving TaskRabbit’s existing functionality to a modular architecture. We are doing this by creating new isolated Rails engines and slowly removing our dependency on the existing Rails monolith.

We are seeking an experienced Ruby on Rails Engineer to join our team with a focus on deconstructing a large monolithic application into smaller, independent services. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and developing high-quality Ruby engines, Rails HTTP APIs, scalable company-wide design patterns, and possibly micro-services written in other languages.

If you are passionate about deconstructing large, complex monolithic applications into smaller, independent services, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.

You will be:

  • Working closely with product managers and stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical requirements for a service-oriented architecture
  • Deconstruct a large, complex monolithic application into smaller, independent services
  • Develop and implement a strategy for transitioning from a monolithic architecture to a service oriented architecture
  • Design and implement RESTful APIs for communication between services
  • Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code for both existing and new services
  • Identify and address performance bottlenecks and other issues in the monolithic application and the newly created services
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including system architecture and design documents
  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to other developers
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in software development
  • Mentor and train junior developers

You should have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience developing web applications with Ruby on Rails
  • Experience with monolith deconstruction, including experience transitioning from a monolithic architecture to a service-oriented architecture
  • Strong understanding of RESTful API design and implementation
  • Experience with software development tools such as Git, JIRA, and Agile methodologies
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience with cloud-based architecture (AWS) is a plus
