About the Team:

Smartly proudly houses Render, responsible for a flagship part of Smartly's product offering, having an extensive impact on the company's ambitions for the future. Our customers rely on our creative production engine to generate tens of millions of advertising creatives, and your future team is at the core of this massive operational effort.

We are agnostic about technology and always aim to choose the best tools for the job. Our services run on Node.js, orchestrated by Kubernetes, and we manage public APIs that serve as the backbone for internal services across the company. To analyze the performance of our creatives across social platforms, we integrate with robust BI tools including Snowflake, Redash, and Google. We ensure reliability and speed through automated pipelines using GitHub Actions.

Our work is defined by immense scale and innovation. During peak times, our systems have rendered 16 billion (16 000 000 000) images monthly on hundreds of servers. We focus heavily on evolving our creative group’s capabilities while reacting to real-time customer demand and feedback.

As a Senior Software Engineer, You Will:

• Own vertical slices of our rendering platform, taking end-to-end responsibility for backend projects and distributed systems.
• Find the smallest possible increments to deliver infrastructure improvements and features to customers as quickly as possible.
• Define, design, and own API contracts for both internal and external stakeholders..
• Documenting our services and communicating our offerings to other teams within Smartly
• Lead technical design decisions and tradeoffs, prioritizing high availability, performance, and code quality in every release.
• Partner closely with Product and Infrastructure stakeholders to ensure our rendering engine meets customer demand at a global scale.
• Act as a mentor and technical guide, elevating the team through constructive code reviews and providing guidance on complex backend architecture.
• Drive projects forward independently, proactively identifying performance bottlenecks and dispatching roadblocks efficiently..

What We’re Looking For:

• Minimum of 6 years of experience in building robust, complex, and distributed web applications
• Deep expertise in backend development using modern technologies. We use mostly Node.js,  Typescript and PostgreSQL but we are open to hearing more about technologies used by you
• DevOps experience including competency with Kubernetes and messaging queues is considered as an asset
• A proactive and autonomous mindset, showing persistence when solving deep technical hurdles in production environments.
• Strong analytical skills to dissect product requirements into actionable technical tasks and well-architected services.
• Excellent communication skills in English, with the ability to explain the connection between infrastructure work and the company vision.
• Motivation for solving customers' problems and delivering value to customers at a fast pace
• Ability to work in a hybrid capacity from our Helsinki office 3 days a week (or more if you like).
