Senior Software Engineer (Java, Python, ML, AI)

About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will lead the design and development of scalable, high-performance systems that solve complex business problems. You'll own critical components, drive technical decisions, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable software while mentoring team members and balancing short-term goals with long-term sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

• Translate complex requirements into effective software solutions
• Design, build, and maintain scalable, high-performance components and services
• Take ownership of system components, driving implementation and managing technical debt
• Ensure high availability and SLA compliance for services
• Collaborate with data scientists and engineering leadership in an agile environment
• Contribute to architectural roadmaps and capacity planning
• Define and implement comprehensive testing practices
• Champion continuous delivery practices and enhance team productivity
• Balance delivery priorities with architectural sustainability
• Design and run experiments to optimize algorithms and system performance

Skills and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of software development experience
• Proficiency in Java, Python, Rust, or Go
• Strong AWS cloud platform experience
• Understanding of machine learning, deep learning, and LLMs
• Experience building scalable, resilient systems
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
• Functional programming experience (preferred)

The Team

The AI & Platform Services (AIPS) team provides AI-centric core services that scale globally, including search, recommendations, candidate matching, and personalisation. AIPS works with internal partners who deliver products to candidates and hirers.

Team members work in squads combining three roles: AI (machine learning), Strategy (business/product), and Engineering (development/DevOps).
