Apron was started by a group of people who’d spent years building products for some of today’s most successful global fintech companies. But there was one problem that no-one was solving: Business money. The kind that buys tomatoes, tiles, and till rolls. The kind that keeps suppliers happy and business booming. The kind that, before you know it, eats up your entire day.

One million small businesses in the UK will each spend 5 hours this week paying and reconciling invoices, alongside countless hours chasing staff for expense receipts.

This is a problem that’s affecting entrepreneurs. Dreamers. Risk takers. Backbones of our communities. Imagine what they could do with this time instead. What would they build? How far could they go? That’s why we created Apron as an essential tech layer in the small business machine. We flip the payment experience from blocking business to boosting it. Apron weaves neatly into your workflow and tightens it up, turning hours into minutes.

We have grown fast over the past few years, expanding our team to circa 70 individuals across the UK and more. We are backed by Index Ventures, Bessemer Venture Partners, with participation of Visionaries Club and the founders of Melio and Klarna and we’ve raised $50m.

What you’ll be doing

As a Frontend Engineer at Apron, you’ll help shape the future of our product and deliver experiences that small businesses love to use. Day to day, that means:

• Building, refining, and shipping new features that make a real impact for our customers.

• Collaborating with fellow Frontend Engineers to evolve our product and scale it with quality in mind.

• Contributing to our design system to keep our app consistent, accessible, and beautifully crafted.

• Writing reliable end-to-end, functional, and unit tests to keep performance and quality high.

• Spotting opportunities to improve our frontend workflows and championing new ideas or tools that raise the bar.

• Being part of the conversation from the very start of a feature - every voice matters in how we design and deliver.

• Sharing your expertise with the team and helping drive innovation across the product.

What you’ll need

We’re looking for someone who’s excited to build high-quality products and has a sharp eye for user experience. Ideally, you’ll bring:

• At least 5 years of experience as a Frontend Engineer.

• Solid technical foundations in TypeScript, CSS, and core web concepts.

• Experience with React (we also use Stitches, Playwright, and React Query, but you can pick those up on the job).

• An appreciation for great design and the ability to translate it into clean, accessible UI.

• Curiosity, creativity, and a collaborative mindset - you care about how we build things together, not just what we build.

• Recent relevant experience working as part of an in-house product team and/or within SaaS/Tech company/Startup will be strongly preferred.
