Galway Office 

Rent The Runway established its European Technology Hub in Galway in April 2019.  Based in the historic Claddagh area of the city, the growing team in Galway tackles core technology challenges and influences the next generation of services critical to Rent The Runway’s success and continued growth. 

The Galway office is Rent the Runway's first international office outside the US and enables the company to significantly expand its Software Engineering, Product Development, Machine Learning Engineering and Data Science footprint. About the Job: 

We are looking for a Senior Full Stack/Front End leaning Engineer who values creativity and user experience as much as great code and curiosity, and someone who is frontend-leaning, strong in React/TypeScript and storefront work, but comfortable owning backend changes tied to user flows, experiments, and eligibility logic. As an engineer on the Consumer Retention team, you will work with an enthusiastic team of engineers focused on the early stages of the customer journey across multiple devices and surfaces. You’ll build world class experiences for an eager and passionate customer base, from their first visit to their first order! Our team works in an agile environment, building high-quality, performant software while solving high-impact and complex problems!

What You'll Do:

• Build and evolve frontend-heavy experiences (React / Next.js) on a high-traffic consumer surface, with strong attention to performance, accessibility, and usability.
• Own backend changes end-to-end when tied to customer flows, including APIs, eligibility logic, and integrations.
• Own the design and delivery of large, user-facing features across web and supporting backend services.
• Partner closely with Product, Design, and Engineering leadership to shape scope, sequencing, and technical tradeoffs.
• Identify and reduce technical debt by deprecating outdated functionality and simplifying systems.
• Be hands-on in the codebase, unblock others, and participate in on-call as needed
• Work confidently in a feature-flagged, experiment-driven environment and ensure analytics and instrumentation are correct.
• You’ll build intuitive and well-tested APIs for manipulating & retrieving user data, like preferences, customer reviews, referrals, and beyond.
• Drive technical projects to success in a fast-paced startup environment.
• Assist in prioritisation efforts, planning future roadmaps, and providing mentorship to others.
• Take ownership over large, complex features, systems, or projects, and the impact on the overall product/business.
• Deepen your knowledge and build your skills across our technology stack: ReactJS, Next.js, React-testing-library, Java, Mysql, Mongo, RabbitMQ, Spring Boot, Splunk, Splunk Cloud, SignalFX

About you:

• BA/BS in Computer Science, a related degree, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong experience building complex UIs using ReactJS and TypeScript (Next.js a plus)
• A strong command of best practices, design patterns, and system architecture tradeoffs.
• Comfortable owning backend work for user-facing features (Node/Java/Kotlin-based services, APIs, data flows).
• Knowledge of various types of data stores, and their pros-and-cons.
• Experience with distributed system performance analysis and optimisation.
• Ability to understand, diagnose, and effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions.
• High level of comfort navigating ambiguity and making the tradeoffs without compromising quality.
• Experience in modern frameworks and design patterns (MVC, REST, Swagger/OpenAPI).
• The ideal candidate will have previous experience with cloud migration - refactor & re-architecture of consumer-facing applications and data stores.
