Position Description 

Cushing Terrell is seeking a Software Engineer III to serve as a senior technical lead on a small internal engineering team. This hands-on role involves designing, building, and maintaining in-house software that supports critical business workflows. You will write production code, provide technical leadership, and mentor other engineers while working with stakeholders across operations, finance, engineering, and architecture. A key focus is modernizing legacy desktop applications with modern, maintainable systems while ensuring business continuity.

 Position Salary Range*

$107,000 to $137,000 annually.

 Required Qualifications** 

  • 8+ years of software development experience
  • Strong skills in designing, developing, testing, and maintaining production systems
  • Experience making architectural decisions for reliable, maintainable systems
  • Experience leading and mentoring engineers
  • Modernizing or replacing legacy systems
  • Advanced SQL and relational database experience (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL)
  • Building web-native applications in JavaScript/TypeScript (Node, React, or similar)
  • Familiarity with Linux and Windows environments
  • Proficiency with Git and collaborative platforms
  • Ability to debug complex production issues
  • Clear communication of technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications** 

  • C# and .NET Windows desktop experience
  • Experience supporting internal business teams
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools

  • Lead replacement of legacy applications with modern technologies
  • Partner with stakeholders to prioritize high-value solutions
  • Manage competing priorities and make informed technical/business tradeoffs
  • Ensure code quality, reliability, security, and maintainability
  • Diagnose and resolve complex production issues
  • Participate in after-hours support as needed
  • Stay current with evolving technologies and AI-assisted tools

*Actual pay will be determined based on the candidate’s years of experience, licensure status, location, level of proficiency, and other job-related factors (as permitted by law). This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus.
