This role offers the opportunity to build and maintain backend systems that power a high-impact digital platform focused on personalized nutrition and healthcare solutions. You will design, implement, and optimize backend services, APIs, and data infrastructure that support both member-facing applications and internal clinical workflows. Collaborating closely with frontend engineers and product teams, you will ensure the delivery of scalable, reliable, and secure software. The position combines hands-on development with system design, performance optimization, and mentoring junior engineers. You will work in a remote-first, dynamic environment where your contributions directly improve user experience and operational efficiency. The role encourages innovation, adoption of modern technologies, and continuous improvement across backend systems.
Accountabilities:
Develop and maintain backend systems powering web applications and internal tools
Design, implement, and maintain RESTful APIs to serve frontend and internal workflows effectively
Establish development best practices including code reviews, automated testing, and deployment procedures
Collaborate with product and frontend teams to translate requirements into robust backend solutions
Debug, resolve, and monitor production issues, ensuring system reliability and scalability
Proactively optimize system performance, data workflows, and cloud infrastructure usage
Stay current with emerging technologies and propose improvements for backend architecture and processes
Requirements:
3–5 years of experience in backend software development using languages such as JavaScript, TypeScript, or Node.js
Strong knowledge of server-side development, RESTful API design, and scalable architectures
Proficiency with SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB); experience with cloud data warehouses (e.g., Redshift) is a plus
Experience with AWS services such as Lambda, SQS, RDS, and EC2
Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
Solid understanding of software engineering principles, algorithms, data structures, and system design
Skilled in problem-solving, debugging, and optimizing server-side performance
BS or MS in Computer Science or related field
Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
