About the team - Clients & Accounts The Clients & Accounts domain at Wealthsimple oversees the broad and important mandate of growing our client base while ensuring the reliability, performance, and scalability of our core systems. We acquire and guide clients through their onboarding journey so that they can seamlessly open and fund their accounts — most often we do this with no human intervention and in hours not days! To accomplish this, we’ve built industry-leading technology focused on automation and integrate various third-party technologies.  About the role - Site Reliability Engineer As a Site Reliability Engineer, you’ll work as part of the Clients & Accounts Domain, acting as a liaison with the Infrastructure and Platform team. The role is critical for leveraging Infraplat's tools to ensure 100% uptime, reliability, and scalability for our critical-tier systems. Key responsibilities include identifying and addressing infrastructure gaps, advocating for team needs to Infraplat, and making the system robust to prevent production issues. Ultimately, this SRE will boost developer productivity by facilitating quick, confident code shipping and enhancing system observability and health. Requirements
  • Experience with Ruby / SQL / AWS / Kubernetes 
  • Proven experience building and operating highly reliable and scalable services, with a strong focus on system stability.
  • Within 1 month, you'll
  • Learn about the foundations of Wealthsimple, and our current reliability goals for the future that you will start to shape.
  • Meet other new Wealthsimplers in your onboarding group and key people from each department, to start to build relationships across the company.
  • Gather an understanding of our technology by pair-programming with your teammates and attending engineering onboarding sessions designed and presented by your peers.
  • Have an assigned buddy within your team that will assist you in getting up-to-speed with our architecture, monitoring systems, and current reliability projects.
  • Within 3 months, you'll
  • Learn Wealthsimple’s technical stack and apply our development patterns and best practices through your work, with an emphasis on production-readiness.
  • Buddy up for your first on-call rotation to help identify and resolve production issues and bugs clients have experienced.
  • Contribute to and support our core infrastructure and automation tools and share your work with the team.
  • Learn how to query our data to measure the impact of your reliability improvements.
  • Support over a million clients on their financial journey by shipping your first automation or infrastructure project in a secure, and scalable way. 🚀
  • Within 6 months you'll
  • Reliably ship new features or system improvements to our clients, following our best practices such as shipping daily, writing automated tests, and enhancing production monitoring.
  • Contribute to or lead the technical design of a reliability project, while understanding how it will shape our future architecture and operational posture.
  • Collaborate with other developers on the team while mentoring and providing continuous feedback via code reviews, focusing on code quality and operational excellence.
  • Develop a big picture perspective and understand how our tools and frameworks come together.
  • You’ll feel comfortable contributing to various codebases.
  • Within 12 months, you'll
  • Lead your first large-scale reliability project: planning, scoping, and regularly communicating progress to stakeholders to ensure the quality and timelines.
  • Have provided leverage to our engineering teams by shipping new best practices and tools for all to benefit from, significantly improving development velocity and system stability.
  • Participate in our hiring process and shape the growth of the Engineering team.
  • Have worked closely with our product and design teams, contributing your own feedback and opinions on design and UX from a reliability and performance perspective.
