Job Overview
BPS Bioscience Inc. is a leading provider of recombinant proteins, assay kits, and recombinant cell lines for drug discovery. We are seeking an exceptional senior scientist, with a strong background in enzymology, enzyme kinetics, protein/protein interactions, fluorescence and luminescence-based assays, and cell-based assays.
The Senior Scientist, Process Development, will lead the design, optimization, and scale-up of robust manufacturing processes for biochemical and cell-based products. This is a hands-on, lab bench role; the ideal candidate will actively perform laboratory experiments, develop and transfer new products and processes from R&D to manufacturing and quality control, and establish product specifications. The position requires direct expertise in process characterization, technology transfer, and continuous improvement, supporting the delivery of high-quality products. The candidate must be highly skilled in product and assay development, enzymology, and other biochemical, molecular, and cell biology techniques. The ideal candidate will work with minimal guidance, execute experiments to a very high standard, troubleshoot technical and scientific problems, and effectively progress multiple projects simultaneously.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, and optimization of manufacturing and QC processes for BPS Bioscience’s core products, including recombinant proteins, assay kits, cell lines, and virus-based tools.
- Validate and transfer new products and processes from R&D to manufacturing and quality control, ensuring seamless technology transfer and process implementation.
- Establish product specifications and ensure processes meet ISO 9001:2015, regulatory, quality, and operational standards.
- Drive process optimization initiatives to enhance yields, quality, and scalability, leveraging advanced bioreactor operation, cell culture, and transfection techniques.
- Characterize processes and implement continuous improvement initiatives, supporting the delivery of high-quality products across BPS’s diverse catalog.
- Troubleshoot technical and scientific problems, investigate process deviations, and implement corrective and preventative measures.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, manufacturing, and quality teams, and serve as a scientific interface with external partners, customers for technical discussions.
- Author and review technical protocols, SOPs, batch records, and reports.
- Mentor and train junior scientists, review experimental data, and provide guidance to ensure employee maintain high level bench depth and technical competency.
- Participate in regular department and cross functional meetings and present scientific data
Requirements: (list education level, years of experience and other requirements for the role)
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Bioengineering, or related discipline.
- 8+ years of relevant experience in process development, preferably in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry, with direct experience in recombinant protein expression, assay kit development and manufacturing, cell line engineering, and virus-based tool production.
- Proven expertise in enzymology, assay development, protein/protein interactions, and cell-based assay technologies, including hands-on experience with BPS Bioscience’s product types (e.g., luciferase reporter assays, PARP assays, immune checkpoint proteins, CAR-T cell tools).
- Experience with process characterization, scale-up, and technology transfer.
- Strong understanding of ISO 9001:2015, cGMP, GLP, and regulatory requirements relevant to BPS Bioscience’s manufacturing and quality control.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects, with a track record of delivering results in a fast-paced, multitasking environment.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, especially in the context of BPS’s unique and first-to-market products.
- Strong teamwork, organizational, and communication skills; ability to collaborate across R&D, manufacturing, and quality teams.
- Detail-oriented, highly organized, and committed to data integrity and quality; experience maintaining meticulous records and lab documentation.
- Familiarity with bioreactor operations, purification techniques (chromatography, filtration), and cell line engineering as applied to BPS Bioscience’s product portfolio.
- Hands-on experience with statistical analysis and DoE using JMP (SAS), Spotfire, or GeneData in manufacturing and QC.
- Skilled in trending process and QC data, establishing/refining product specifications, and supporting stability and shelf-life studies.
