Scientific Systems Company Inc. is looking to fill a Controls and Autonomy Research Engineer position in the Intelligent Control Systems group in the areas of autonomous guidance, navigation and control for multiple aerial and space vehicles.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Integrate advanced autonomy, AI/ML, GNC, and optimization algorithms into complex high-fidelity simulations and hardware systems, then carry out and document performance analyses.
  • Lead hardware-in-the-loop and experimental testing of complex guidance, navigation, and control algorithms.
  • Demonstrate efficient tasks and team collaboration while executing technical tasks, with growth objective into project leadership.
  • Produce technical materials and compose reports, presentations, and proposals, then present at customer-facing meetings on technical progress.
  • This role may require occasional travel when needed.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active DOD Security Clearance.

 

Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering or related disciplines and 5+ years of applicable related experience or Master’s degree and 5 years of applicable.
  • 2+ years of programming skills in C++/Python/Java/MATLAB.
  • Experience with complex dynamic simulation software or real-time control software, as    applicable to advanced GNC for autonomous vehicles.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD
  • Research experience in single or multi-vehicle autonomy in one or more UxV domains (ground, water surface, underwater, aerial, and space vehicles).
  • Advanced programming skills (4+ years, experience with safety-critical software)
  • Experience leading research programs (thesis/dissertation/funded programs)
  • Experience with hardware integration and testing for autonomous vehicles.
  • Familiarity with Machine Learning techniques as applied to the design of autonomous control systems.
