Senior R&D Scientist - Carbohydrate Synthesis | Global MNC

This is a senior individual contributor and people-leader role reporting directly to the Research & Technology Director. You will lead multiple innovation programmes, translate strategic objectives into experimental workstreams, and mentor a team of scientists — all while driving sustainable, commercially relevant research aligned with global goals. Role Details
• Remuneration Package: Up to $7,500 + Transport Allowances $200
• Annual Bonus: AWS + Company Variable and Performance Bonus
• Location: Jurong Island, Singapore (Company transport provided at designated point)
• Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time
• Exposure: Regional and global project collaboration

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead R&D Programmes — Direct experimental research to develop new and existing products that address real market and customer needs
• Drive Scientific Excellence — Design, execute, and oversee laboratory experiments and plant trials with rigour and precision
• Translate Strategy into Action — Convert business objectives into clear, actionable research plans with well-managed timelines and resources
• Mentor & Develop — Coach and guide scientists through technical challenges, feedback, and performance development
• Collaborate Cross-Functionally — Partner with commercial, regulatory, and operations teams to support product scale-up, launch, and lifecycle management
• Communicate with Impact — Present technical findings confidently to internal stakeholders, customers, and industry audiences
• Identify New Opportunities — Proactively spot gaps for new research directions, product innovations, and process improvements
• Champion Compliance & Safety — Uphold the highest safety, regulatory, and quality standards across all lab and pilot-scale activities
• Foster a Great Team Culture — Act as a senior role model, promoting collaboration, inclusion, and knowledge sharing within the R&D team

Key Requirements:
• PhD in Organic Chemistry (with a focus on carbohydrate or related synthesis)
• Minimum 3 years of post-doctoral or relevant industry experience
• Track record of scientific publications, ideally with translation into industrially relevant applications
• Experience setting up a synthesis laboratory from the ground up
• Familiarity with building business cases for CAPEX submissions
• Knowledge of IP, regulatory frameworks, and product development processes
• Understanding of market trends in specialty or sustainable chemistry
• Proven ability to lead and influence cross-functional, cross-regional teams in a matrixed environment
• Strong project management skills — able to run multiple complex programmes simultaneously
