The Role

Huge is looking for a Senior QA who is a specialist in mobile app ecosystems. In this role, you aren’t just a tester; you are a quality strategist. You will be responsible for defining the testing architecture for complex React Native applications and integrated web services. Unlike a generalist, you understand that a simulator is no substitute for the real world—extensive experience testing on physical iOS and Android devices is strictly required. You will partner closely with engineering and product teams to mitigate risk and ensure that our "BFF" and API service layers are robust enough to handle global-scale commerce.

What You’ll Be Doing

Quality Strategy & Physical Device Testing

  • Hardware-First QA: Lead the end-to-end testing lifecycle with a focus on physical device validation, ensuring app performance, battery consumption, and haptics meet world-class standards across various OS versions and hardware specs.
  • Automation Architecture: Design and implement scalable automated testing frameworks (using tools like Appium) that work across physical device clouds and local hardware.
  • Service Layer Validation: Rigorously test BFF and API service layers with Postman or similar tools, ensuring data integrity and performance between the mobile front-end and the commerce backend.
  • Risk Mitigation: Quickly identify hardware-specific "blind spots" (e.g., camera integration, biometrics, or connectivity drops) and communicate them to the team with actionable solutions.

Leadership & Process Excellence

  • Standards & Governance: Establish quality standards that prioritize physical device benchmarks over simulator results.
  • Collaborative Quality: Work hand-in-hand with Product and Engineering to translate complex business requirements into test plans that cover real-world edge cases.
  • Mentorship: Lead and mentor junior QA team members, providing expert guidance and elevating the team’s technical capabilities in mobile performance profiling.

What we’d like to see

  • 6+ years of QA engineering experience: Specifically focused on high-traffic digital products and mobile React Native applications.
  • Physical Device Testing Expertise (REQUIRED): You must have a proven track record of testing on physical iOS and Android hardware. You understand the nuances that simulators miss, from gesture response times to real-world push notification delivery.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and the ability to debug React code to write more effective tests.
  • API & Integration Mastery: Deep understanding of BFF architectures and API testing; experience validating complex commerce and payment integrations is a major plus.
  • Automation Tooling: Expert-level experience with mobile test automation frameworks (Playwright + Appium or similar) and CI/CD integration.
  • Mobile Ecosystem Knowledge: Familiarity with the nuances of iOS and Android support, including push notification testing (e.g., via Airship), deep linking, and release cycles with systems like Testflight and AppTester.
  • Performance & Security: Skilled in hardware performance profiling to ensure our products are not just functional, but fast and safe on actual user devices.
