This is a fully remote role for candidates who are based outside of the New York Metropolitan area. For those located in the area, we encourage you to consider our hybrid work arrangement (1-2 days a week in our NYC office). The Senior Project Manager I, Land Development, supports the development of standalone storage and solar-plus-storage projects, assisting site due diligence, permitting, and community relations. This position involves coordinating with external consultants for site evaluations, developing detailed project schedules, reviewing technical reports, engaging with local stakeholders, investigating permitting and zoning requirements, and working with outside counsel.
This is an individual contributor role and therefore does not have any direct reports but may exercise some informal mentorship and guidance to junior level staff.
What You’ll Do
Strategic Project Development (35%)
o Support projects with internal stakeholders and external vendors through critical stages, including feasibility scoping, due diligence, permitting, budget and schedule development, and subcontractor/vendor agreement execution.
o Assist with all aspects of the project land development process and drive projects to their successful completion.
o Coordinate site due diligence activities, including gathering and analyzing technical data to assess site feasibility.
o Manage external consultants performing site studies, environmental reviews, and other technical evaluations.
o Review civil and environmental related studies and documents prepared by external consultants.
o Coordinate site walks, zoning/bylaws reviews, attend meetings with the state agencies, towns and other stakeholders, as well as present to planning/zoning boards, state and federal agencies.
o Travel as necessary to attend public meetings, with consultants and attorneys, to represent Convergent and each project by acting as the company’s representative and subject matter expert.
o Understand state and local land-use permitting requirements associated with new market entry.
o Manage the preparation and submission of permitting applications and track progress through approval.
o Monitor deadlines and coordinate efforts across team members to keep tasks aligned with the project schedule.
Cross-Functional Collaboration (35%)
o Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to coordinate development activities, communicate progress, and efficiently hand off entitled projects.
o Develop project management skills including critical thinking, problem-solving, negotiation, cross-functional team management, effective communication, scheduling, budgeting, and risk management.
o Collaborate with senior team members to engage local stakeholders, including community members, government officials, and other key parties.
Leadership and Team Coordination (20%)
o Work closely with senior managers, other project managers, and cross-functional departments (e.g., engineering, and legal teams) to ensure smooth project execution.
o Take ownership of specific tasks or phases of the development process, ensuring they are completed on time and meet quality standards.
o Provide regular updates and status reports to senior team members, ensuring transparency and alignment across teams.
o Manage personal bandwidth and tasks and communicate effectively when experiencing constraints.
Administrative and Reporting Tasks (5%)
o Prepare reports and documentation as needed for internal stakeholders.
o Monitor project progress by maintaining project documentation, tracking task completion and scheduling, and ensuring proper filing of project documents
o Maintain organized records of project-related documents.
o Schedule and coordinate meetings with consultants, internal and external stakeholders
o Assist in managing consultants and vendor contracts, including invoice tracking and payments.
o As needed, hold meetings with external consultants regarding scope of work simplification, cost reduction, and preferred vendor fee discount arrangements.
Operational Oversight and Vendor Management (5%)
o Communicate on a regular basis with manager and team members, including in-person meetings held at the NYC headquarters as needed to foster strong collaboration amongst the Development team.
o Assist in the evaluation and selection of consultants and service providers including title insurance, due diligence and permitting consultants, surveyors, and outside counsel.
o Hold external consultants to general norms of quality of work performed.
o Hold periodic project progress meetings with external consultants to track progress and any changes.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
o Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, geosciences, or other degree relevant to land development, renewable energy, or project management with a strong academic record.
o Minimum five years of related experience in commercial land development, engineering, construction, project management, or related field. Proven project management skills, including cross-functional team management, due diligence, entitlements, budgeting, and scheduling.
o Demonstrated ability to work with a close-knit team environment comprised of multiple technical abilities and knowledge levels.
o Advanced knowledge of land use planning, zoning, and permitting processes.
o Strong organizational and communication skills to manage multiple tasks and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
o Ability to review and interpret technical reports and recommend next steps under supervision.
o Advanced proficiency in managing project timelines and deliverables with attention to detail.
o Skillset to make day-to-day decisions autonomously while being responsible for managing projects in various stages of development.
o Effectively manage responsibilities with limited oversight on day-to-day tasks.
o Advanced experience working with teams across departments such as engineering, legal, and finance to align project objectives and timelines.
o Ability to coordinate with senior leadership and project management staff for updates and decision-making.
o Proven experience engaging with external consultants (e.g., environmental, engineering, or land-use professionals) to ensure deliverables meet project needs.
o Advanced experience with managing relationships with permitting agencies, local governments, and community stakeholders.
o As applicable, this role may involve physical activity, including but not limited to standing, walking, or lifting up to 50 lbs.
o Alignment with Convergent’s mission, values and a strong interest in the Clean Energy Transition.
o 30% travel expected to progress project entitlements, including pre-application, municipal, or pre-construction meetings and for team events and company-wide meetings. Travel to remote sites may be required, which could involve driving or air travel.

Base Salary Range: $140,000 - $155,000; Salary Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience.
