Senior Project Engineer - BESS

This role is responsible for leading the design, engineering, and implementation of utility-scale and commercial Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. You will oversee technical delivery throughout development, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases, ensuring projects meet safety, quality, schedule, and financial objectives. The position requires close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including civil, structural, electrical, and SCADA engineers, as well as construction and operations personnel. You will manage external consultants, coordinate with utilities, and optimize site-specific designs. Accountabilities

·         Lead technical delivery of BESS projects across development, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.

·         Serve as the primary engineering authority to ensure adherence to project schedule, budget, safety, quality, and contractual requirements.

·         Manage external engineering consultants, review deliverables, and ensure alignment with project goals.

·         Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering disciplines, including civil, structural, electrical, fire protection, and SCADA.

·         Review and approve all engineering deliverables, including drawings, studies, specifications, calculations, and reports.

·         Oversee equipment procurement, vendor proposals, and technical contract specifications.

·         Conduct site assessments to optimize constructability, system integration, and project efficiency.

·         Support construction and commissioning teams by resolving engineering issues, reviewing submittals, and verifying compliance with design.

·         Collaborate with O&M teams to ensure safe and maintainable project designs.

·         Foster effective relationships with stakeholders, clients, and project teams.

Requirements

·         Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

·         Minimum 5 years of experience in power engineering or renewable energy project engineering.

·         Demonstrated experience with BESS project design, engineering, construction, and commissioning.

·         Knowledge of BESS systems, electrical engineering standards, construction practices, safety regulations, IEEE, NFPA 855, and NEC.

·         Proficiency in Procore, Microsoft Office, and AutoCAD.

·         Strong technical communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

·         Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

·         Familiarity with NERC/FERC requirements, relay setting programs (SEL AcSELerator), and power studies software (Aspen, ETAP, Easy Power, PSCAD) is a plus.

·         Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites (up to 25%).
