Role Overview
We’re looking for a Senior Product Manager to lead the strategy and execution for our recommendation systems, Boosts (cross-promotion), and Ads monetization initiatives.
You’ll own the end-to-end product vision for how creators, publishers, and businesses grow and monetize their audience across our platform – inspired by ecosystems like Substack, Beehiiv, and their recommendation/ads networks – and turn that into a coherent roadmap and shipped outcomes. This is a highly strategic role with massive impact on revenue, creator growth, and network effects.
What You’ll Own
Strategy & Vision:
- Own the north-star vision and roadmap for:
- Subscriber/content recommendations surfaces
- Boosts / cross-promotion marketplace
- Ads monetization (on-network and partner inventory)
- Translate company strategy into clear, measurable product outcomes (e.g. revenue per subscriber, LTV, ARPU, activation & retention).
- Map and deeply understand the ecosystem: creators, advertisers, agencies, and end readers/customers.
Recommendations – New Format & Growth Engine:
- Define and evolve a recommendation system that helps users discover the most relevant content, creators, and offers.
- Partner with Data/ML to
- Design ranking & recommendation algorithms
- Define training data needs and feedback loops
- Ship experiments that improve click-through, conversion, and downstream value.
- Own the UX of recommendation surfaces (widgets, feeds, carousels, in-product placements) to balance growth, user value, and trust.
- Build experimentation and measurement frameworks for A/B tests and multi-variant experiments around recommendations.
Monetize (Boosts)
- Cross-Promotion MarketplaceOwn the Boosts product: a marketplace where creators/brands can promote each other, grow lists, and drive incremental subscribers/customers.
- Define matching logic, pricing/credits models, eligibility rules, and quality/reputation signals.
- Design simple but powerful flows for: Buying and managing boosts, Approving/reviewing partners, Monitoring performance (CPC, CPA, net new subs, ROI).
- Ensure the marketplace has the right guardrails to prevent abuse, spam, and low-quality promotion.
Execution & Cross-Functional Leadership
- Translate vision and PRDs (Recommendations – New Format, Monitize Boosts, Monitize Ads, etc.) into prioritized, outcome-driven roadmaps.
- Run structured discovery: interviews, prototypes, data deep-dives, and competitive analysis (Substack, Beehiiv, etc.).
- Collaborate closely with:
- Engineering to plan, scope, and deliver high-quality releases
- Design to create intuitive, scalable UX
- Data to instrument metrics and build robust dashboards
- Sales/CS/Marketing to shape GTM, positioning, and feedback loops
- Drive alignment and narrative: clearly communicate tradeoffs, decisions, and progress to stakeholders and leadership.
What You’ll Bring
- 6+ years in Product Management
- Experience in one or more of:
- Recommendations / personalization / ML-driven products
- Ads platforms or ad networks
- Marketplaces or cross-promotion/growth products
- Creator platforms, email/newsletters, or content networks (Substack, Beehiiv, etc.).
- Strong analytical and technical fluency: Comfortable working with Data/ML teams, Can define robust metrics and experimentation plans, Can reason about system design, APIs, and data flows at a high level.
- Proven track record of moving key business metrics (revenue, ARPU, activation, retention, engagement).
- Demonstrated ability to lead without authority, influence cross-functional partners, and drive alignment across product, engineering, and GTM.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; can create crisp narratives for both executive stakeholders and individual contributors.
How Success Will Be Measured (First 12 Months)
- A clear, aligned 12–18 month roadmap for recommendations, Boosts, and Ads is defined and in execution.
- Meaningful improvements in:
- Recommendation performance (CTR, conversion, downstream LTV)
- Boosts marketplace health (volume, match quality, ROI for participants)
- Ads monetization metrics (revenue, RPM, fill, advertiser retention)
- Strong internal adoption and understanding of these products by Sales, CS, and Marketing.
- You are seen as the single-threaded owner and strategic leader for this domain.
